Nature Recovery
Nature Recovery
Nature recovery is what we are striving for at High Leasowes. It is a precious space for nature, where our management of the meadows and hedgerows is creating more and better habitat for a wide range of creatures. Over time the meadows will have a growing variety of flowers and grasses; these will provide food for an increasing number of invertebrates including moths, butterflies and countless spiders and insects. In turn these provide food for birds, bats and lizards. Our hedges and dead-hedges are natural corridors, shelter and nesting opportunities for birds, small mammals and butterflies. Toads, frogs and lizards live underneath our hedges, or in the habitat heaps by the pond. High Leasowes is a wonderful space for nature.
Surveys by ecologist Caroline Uff, 'Joy of Wildlife', the County Moth Recorder, Mike Carter and John Baines have all contributed to the information we have about the countless creatures that make High Leasowes their home. The carousel below shows some of the recent discoveries at High Leasowes. A species list can be found here.
