As a first-grade team at IACS, we pride ourselves on developing confident readers and engaging mathematical thinkers. Students’ homework consists of leveled readings, sight word practice, spelling lists that support our reading curriculum, first-grade spelling patterns, and weekly math practice. Our homework supports and expands upon what is being taught at school.

Student learning includes daily incorporation of the arts, reading, and math integration. As an arts integrated school, incorporating each subject area into lessons is a big part of our day. Our lesson planning as a first-grade team helps us tailor to individual academic needs. Throughout the year, we work on building a strong classroom community to help students learn leadership and collaboration skills.

Every classroom is supplied with a Smart Board, document camera, and a class set of iPads to keep up with the technological world. The curricula we use includes: Wonders Reading, Istation learning paths and assessments, I-Ready math and various science and Social Studies materials.
