IB Diploma students must choose six DP courses,
One course each from Groups 1-5.
The sixth course can come from Group 6 or be a second course from Groups 1-4.
Students may only ever take a single Group 5 course.
At least three of those courses must be studied at Higher Level (HL).
One course, Environmental Systems and Societies SL, is designated as both Group 3 and Group 4. This means a student can select it as either a Group 3 or a Group 4 course. It also means that it can meet the requirement for both Groups 3 and 4. When used to meet the requirements for both Groups 3 and 4 a student can then take an additional Group 1, 2 or 6 course.
Below are four different examples of full Diploma schedules possible at ICS. Ultimately, IB course selection is driven by the student's post-secondary educational plan and interests. These examples are provided to promote a general understanding and are by no means prescriptive. There are many more combinations of course selections, not to mention differing HL and SL combinations and each family should decide what is best for them.
