Co-curricular Service opportunities take place outside the curriculum. The purpose is to develop students' empathy and care for people in the community. In many case students also have the opportunity to develop leadership skills and personal efficacy, a sense of vocational calling and civic responsibility. Most importantly, these service learning opportunities challenge our students individually to look beyond themselves and explore ways to serve and transform their communities.
As much as possible we aim to provide opportunities for students to do "Direct" service (such as visiting local community centers). These take place in a wide variety of ways, including several Service Clubs, Schoolwide service opportunities (such as canned food drives and Christmas boxes), and other specific programs (such as WWW, MAD, 30-hour Famine, and Domestic Workers Open Day)
Schoolwide Service programs involve students across multiple grade levels contributing to a short-term need. Following are samples of our programs:
Christmas Blessing Project
At Christmas, there is no better time of year to put the needs of others first and tangibly show the love of God to the greater community of Hong Kong than by serving other people. The Annual Christmas Blessing Project as an ICS tradition provides a meaningful opportunity for all grade level students to bless others and “Make a Difference”. Every Christmas, over 400 Christmas shoeboxes are prepared by our Kindergarten and Elementary students. Likewise 300 hygienic care packages are prepared by the MS and delivered by the HS students together with the blessing ornaments to celebrate God's incredible act of love and to bless the local kindergartens, special needs schools and less-privileged families in Hong Kong.

Food Donation and Food Drive
Allows our students to learn about hunger and food waste, and to be part of the solution. The food items donated by our students are delivered to local NGOs, (i.e. Feeding Hong Kong and Food Angel) for their re-distribution to local charities for underprivileged people in Hong Kong. We also support community centers in Shatin area by donating, stocking and distribution food items for person in need.

ES G5 Visit to Shek Mun Kindergarten
Service Learning Clubs provide an environment for our middle school and high school students to advocate their service learning ideas. In Middle School, we have a long-established tradition to visit Loc Ling Home for the Elderly with Face groups, music or Roots groups. We also support a broad range of co--curricular service learning activities and service-oriented clubs for students to choose from: Service Advocates (kids and education), Service Warriors (elderly and disabled), Minority Outreach (ethnic minorities), Global Issues Network GIN (global issues), Domestic Workers Open Day Committee (domestic workers), Roots and Shoots (environmental). We also organize and supervise small group service for specific fields. For instance, the Medical Outreach group to the Prince of Wales Hospital.
MS Face Groups and Roots Groups has a long-tradition for ICS visiting Loc Ling Elderly Home in Shum Shui Po. Here is what our students have to say about "why do you want to go to Loc Ling?"
Serve the Less-Privileged
The Service Advocates serves at the Ronald McDonald's Home, Lok Jun Special Needs School, and in Shek Kip Mei District. They are experts in organizing english workshops and fun games for the less-previlieged children.
Serve our Neighbors and Elderly
The Service Warriors reaches out to the Shek Mun Estates and Ma On Shan Area on regular basis. As responsible members of a global community, ICS encourages students to embrace the duty to love our neighbor by opening our doors to the community and serving others with compassion.
Music Clubs - ICS choirs, bands, strings and handchime take their music into the community by performing at local elderly centers and hosting small concerts at disable home and community centers to spread God’s love and to bring the joy of music into their lives.
Care for Global Issues
Hospital Outreach 2019 service was organized for a small group students to serve at the pediatrics ward at the Prince of Wales Hospital.
Week Without Walls (MS and HS)
We aim to challenge students Physically, Emotionally, Intellectually, and Spiritually in such a way as to produce a greater awareness of the world around them, their place in that world, and the challenge that Christ brings to it.
Week Without Walls involves 5-8 days of experiential learning. WWW experiences can be international or local. Each WWW experience is designed with student learning and impact in mind, and we assess student learning and impact. There is a strong service component to Week Without Walls, and many trips are specifically focused on service. Recognizing that service trips can sometimes do more harm than good, we intentionally choose trip partners who have a long-term commitment to sustainable community development.
Make a Difference (MAD)
ICS Students propose and implement a project to Make a Difference. In addition to the Service Learning units, an important feature of the High School program is the “Make a Difference” Project and other subject-level projects. All ICS High School students participate in a Make a Difference project (MAD).
Grade 9: they attend training sessions, go on organized events and start to develop their own initiatives.
Grade 10: they design and carry out their own projects
Grade 11 &12: they are expected to identify a major area of concern and develop solutions to meet that need and are given 18 months to complete this project.
Students in grades 9-12 identify a need, envision what “success” might look like, set goals, and take action to make a difference in an area of interest. They blog about impact and learning, and gather information to gauge the effectiveness of the action they are take.
ICS also arranges special service projects for students to participate for the causes they care about.
