ICS = Instruction for Life, Commitment to Christ, and Service to the Community.
Service Learning is part of the school mission, strategic plan, ESLRs, and motto. ICS is committed to “Service to the Community." By serving others, students become more aware and care for others, they develop empathy, personal ownership, grit, enhance personal and interpersonal development, and communication skills. As students grow in their Christian worldview they learn how to model Christ in creation care and in caring for those in need.
Authentic service learning in the curriculum can transform students’ hearts, minds, and actions. ICS Service Learning is incorporated in the school curriculum from Reception 1 to Grade 12 to make a difference in the local and global communities through a wide range of curricular and co-curricular programs.
Some of the service opportunities include:
visiting the elderly, feeding the homeless, supporting handicapped people, writing to those in prison, and tutoring children from poorer families and minority groups, Christmas Blessing Programs, Beach Cleanups, Crossroads Visits, Domestic Helper Open Day, and World Vision 30 Hour Famine.
In the High School, students take on more personal responsibility for leading and developing the service activities through leading these events, the Make a Difference Projects, and service clubs.
The goal of Service Learning within ICS is to empower students to put their faith into action by developing their knowledge, skills, and empathy for a lifelong journey of service and transformation of their communities while supporting teachers in embracing the school's SL standards.

Service Learning is integrated at every level and guided by the Twelve Learning Standards such as being meaningful, sustainable, developing student voice, collaboration, and servant leadership. Further, teachers integrate Service Learning into one class Service Learning Unit or more during the year so that academic and service goals are aligned and many service learning opportunities are offered to all students.
Service Learning in Kindergarten and Elementary Schools
In Kindergarten and Elementary, service learning message is incorporated into the themes of “Building Empathy” and “Be a Responsible Member of the Global Community," which are carried out through class-level learning through the Expected Schoolwide Learning Results (ESLR) program and the Bees program. It is important for our younger students to learn about empathy, to act upon and be responsible members of the community, and to understand the significance of Service Learning.
Service Learning in Secondary School
Throughout Secondary School years, students are engaged in service learning activities that promote “Service to the Community." Service Learning is integrated in the curriculum through class-level social science projects. Clubs, WWW Programs, Make a Difference Projects and one off Service Events are coordinated through the service learning program.
Through Service Learning students can serve and transform their communities and learn to be responsible members of the global community, which are core to the ICS Mission and Purpose. Part of ICS encourages students to seek and to address all the Global Goals for Sustainable Development.
