CHRISTMAS

in my  LAND

QUICK DESCRIPTION

The goal is to share our Xmas and New Year Eve traditions (music, gastronomy, decorations) and  to develop several activities including the exchange of real postcards, photos and videos.

Partners

Portugal, Italy, Spain, Canary Islands (Spain), Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Greece, Georgia

PLANNING AND SCHEDULE

Meeting / Video call (through platform Twinspace) to meet all the teachers involved in the project.

The students of each country should do a short presentation of the school (using photos, videos, written texts, or other means).

All the work should be shared on Twinspace

The students should make a presentation of their country / region/ city mentioning the tourist attractions and the historical heritage.

Xmas Postcards exchange. Each postcard should have a message in their own language and in English. This way we promote the national languages and use the English to communicate. To escape technology, we should send the postcards by mail. At the end we should make an exhibition in school sharing the different postcards with all the school community

Video call - All partners should do a video call with their students to wish a Merry Christmas to their pairs of other country

All the partners should share a traditional Xmas song of their country. Teachers should make a video with their students singing Xmas Songs.

UNTIL 31st  JANUARY

The students will share with their pairs photos and videos of their Xmas traditions: the food, the songs, religious traditions and other cultural traditions. They can share, for instance, some of their Xmas decorations at home and in their own city, the food they eat on Xmas at their homes… In this activity parents should be involved, participating in the photoshoot, doing the traditional food and sharing recipes and stories with their children so they can be shared with other students involved in this project.

On New Year´s Eve students should do photos and videos of the cultural traditions of their countries and share with the partners on twinspace. The purpose is to share how New Year´s Eve is celebrated across Europe.

Teachers' first online meeting to get to know each other

XMAS SONGS

video.guru_20231230_224751235.mp4
tu scendi dalle stelle a natale puoi.mp4

In this video, our Italian students are singing two Italian Xmas songs: an old, traditional song and a more modern one.

1) Tu scendi dalle stelle is a Christmas carol from Italy, written in 1744 in Bovino by Saint Alphonses Liguori in the musical style of a pastorale. This song is more related to our religious Christian traditions

Tu scendi dalle stelle From starry skies descending, O Re del Cielo Thou comest, glorious King,e vieni in una grotto A manger low Thy bed, al freddo e al gelo. In winter’s icy sting. O Bambino mio Divino O my dearest Child most holy, Io ti vedo qui a tremar, Shudd’ring, trembling in the cold O Dio Beato Great God, Thou lovest me! Ahi, quanto ti costò What suff’ring Thou didst bear,l’avermi amato! That I near Thee might be!

2) A Natale puoi is a more modern italian song. The song was written by Francesco Vitaloni and sung by Alicia and by Roberta Bonanno (of the Italian Talent Show "Amici") and reached the top of the sales charts. It was used in a famous Christmas commercial on TV , for a popular brand of Panettone (Christmas traditional cake) where children sing it on a hypothetical school play. This songs gives positive messages of kindness, love, peace and hope. This is the video of the commercial:

XMAS TRADITIONS

ITALIAN TRADITIONS AND DECORATIONS

CHRISTMAS TREE AND HOME DECORATIONS

8 th December

Let's start to decorate houses with glowing decorations, Xmas Trees and Presepe (nativity scene)!

SERENA

THE NATIVITY SCENE

The tradition that Italy is known most for is for their “crib” making, or nativity scenes.

Every family has one on display during the holidays.  Some are small and just fit on a table, but some can take up a whole yard!  We do this to honor and remember the baby Jesus and His birth.

Let’s see us while making them, at home!

XMAS DECORATIONS IN ENNA

Some Xmas decorations in Enna: our hometown is full of shining light tricks :)

XMAS TYPICAL DISHES

Some of the biscuits we eat in December: they are called "Buccellati" and they are filled with figs. Other versions have an almond filling, instead. Figs and almonds are one of the main ingredients in Sicilian sweets.

This pic was taken by one of our students, while in his kitchen :)

This is what our student Viola says:

" For Christmas it is a radition to make Buccellati, typical desserts with varied flavours. I prepared them with my mother, first we prepared the fig and almond mixture and let it rest, then we prepared the shortcrust pastry and filled it with the mixture. This is the  recipe we followed:

For the shortcrust pastry: * 500 g 00 flour * 150 g sugar * 150 g lard or butter * 2 eggs * 5 g ammonia for desserts (half a teaspoon) * 5 g baking powder (half a teaspoon) * 1 salt socket * Approximately 45 ml milk or water
