Upcoming Events:

• Webinar: Building a Better Democracy through Civic Education (1/22/21) - The primary objective for this webinar is to gain champions of civics who understand both the promise and further needs in our state including funders and private citizens.

• A New Era of Civics in Massachusetts: What, Why and How? A Workshop Series (2/9/21) - the primary audience is educators and administrators for this one – the goal is to support school and district teams develop evidence-informed and concrete plans for HSS framework and civics project implementation.

Civic Learning Week - Initial Ideas

Purpose

In addition to our legislative efforts and the direct resources we provide to educators, we are envisioning a Massachusetts Civic Learning Week as an opportunity for the MCLC to:

1. Build broader awareness of, and support for, civic learning in Massachusetts beyond legislators and educators (students, parents, corporations, media outlets, MA residents)

2. Amplify and celebrate youth voice by highlighting examples of youth civic engagement, civic learning, and leadership to help a broader audience understand the power of young people and the ways that effective civic learning can create spaces for students to step into that power

3. Provide a coordinated and collaborative opportunity for all MCLC members to amplify the visibility of their own individual programming and the breadth of civic learning across the MCLC and the Commonwealth by creating a calendar of programming led by individual members throughout the week
