Third grade is all about putting together the pieces. We use all the skills we learned in previous grades to show how we can independently find and use information.
We start the year by kicking off the Passport Reading Challenge - a reading club only for 3rd graders. Participants are encouraged to "read around the world" as they use what they know about how libraries are organized. For each of the 5 levels of the challenge, they select 7 different books that somehow connect to each of the continents. The books can be fiction or nonfiction and about ANYTHING... as long at the reader can connect it to a continent. This challenge runs from September through January.
Third Graders get a chance to practice their computer and search skills by learning about our Online Public Access Catalog.
Throughout the year they also dive into poetry writing and various research projects.
Welcome to the 2024-25 school year!
Third graders have been busy! They learned how to use the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) to search for their favorite books in the Primary School Library. They then used their library skills to find the book on the shelf!
In December we will participate in the Hour of Code and learn about computer programing. In January they will evaluate this year's Caldecott Contenders and present their opinions to each other.
The Primary School Library owns a growing collection of eBooks that can be accessed anytime from anywhere. Follow the directions below and read on!
