Exchange Status

Valentina Carrasco Rosales

In the previous editions of the newsletter we presented general information about our exchange status. Now, we want to share with you how the Coronavirus is impacting our numbers up to now:

Offers

  • Currently there are 589 offers published (AC, COBE and FCFS)

  • Because of the Coronavirus situation, we still see more than 1600 offers unused. We hope that soon employers and countries can make a decision regarding them.

  • There are 574 offers cancelled by employers. From those offers, 303 offers were cancelled because of COVID-19 restrictions, which means about 53%.

Nominations

  • Up to this morning there are 408 students accepted and more than 2000 nominations confirmed, waiting for employer decisions.

  • Regarding nominations cancelled by students, currently the data shows 664. From those cancellations 262 are linked to COVID-19 restrictions, which represents about 39% of all cancellations.

Rejections

  • In relation to rejections of students, the total is 1342, the number is also high because of COBE offers. From those rejections only 197, which represents the 15%, are due to COVID-19 restrictions.

In the charts below you will see the progress of offers and nominations in the last two weeks, considering the last time we sent the newsletter and the 13th of May. In relation to the offers, the collumns of AC, COBE and FCFS correspond to published offers.

We know that the situation regarding the Coronavirus varies from one region to another. For instance, in Europe and Asia it seems that countries are getting better and the situation is more steady, possibly leading to a sort of new "normal" time in the upcoming months. However, in Latin America the number of cases confirmed is increasing significantly every day. We are experiencing difficult times worldwide, but hopefully we will recover from them. During the lasts months IAESTE has been working very hard, and I have witnessed how you are fighting to move forward. That is why we want to thank you all for the big efforts you are making to manage the current exchange year. In addition, we know countries depend a lot on government decisions - visa issuing is on hold almost everywhere and we have to be patient. In the meantime, keep an efficient and fluent communication with students, employers and the members you have exchanged with. Hopefully, sooner than expected, we will start issuing acceptance documents again, together with invitation letters and we will have to be ready to welcome our future trainees.
