Use of AI
At Hyper Island, we empower you through integrative and collaborative experiences. Our approach is centered around active engagement followed by reflection, where individuals and groups deepen their understanding by creating or exploring something tangible and relevant to them. Examples include building a solution to a real world problem, constructing a physical object, diving into a new software, producing an exhibition, or designing and implementing a research project. We believe the process of creating something meaningful and exciting - individually and in teams - drives your lifelong learning and allows innovation to emerge from uncertainty. Consider the purpose of your education and attendance in the Program - why are you here? How can you get the most out of your learning in an honest and appropriate way?
Additionally, we acknowledge and embrace the crucial role of technological advancements in today’s world and foster the use of various tools and platforms for developing, deepening, and sharing knowledge, both within the physical space and beyond.
At Hyper Island, we aim for you to develop your AI-literacy to rise to the challenge of recent technological breakthroughs through reflecting on generative AI tools in an effective and appropriate way. All students are expected to discuss legal and ethical factors affecting the industry. To ensure academic rigour and integrity, it is recommended that you reflect on your use of generative AI tools during assessment, if applicable. Best practice could be how AI is used to schedule your time, digest articles and even optimise your learning. Rather than using AI as a “tool to fool”, you are expected to articulate: how have you used AI as a personal coach throughout your learning journey? Best practice for reflecting on the use of AI in assessments could be including a footnote in a written submission or addressing how you utilised AI when doing an oral presentation.
If you prompt an AI to produce the content of your submission, show your process.
AI Contributions Declaration: Clearly indicate any sections of your assessment documents or presentations where AI-generated content is used. You could either footnote these sections or include a separate section at the end detailing the AI's contributions.
Citation Requirement: Cite AI-generated content similarly to how you would cite other sources. This could involve creating a citation format for AI tools, specifying the type of AI (e.g., ChatGPT), the date of the conversation, and the nature of the input given to the AI.
Reflective Process Documentation
Submit a brief reflective essay or appendix alongside the assessment documentation that addresses the following:
Selection Process:
How did you decide which parts of your assessment documentation or presentation could be enhanced or supported by AI-generated content?
What criteria did you use to evaluate the AI's suggestions or contributions?
Integration Strategy:
Describe how you integrated AI-generated content into your assessment documentation or presentation.
How did you ensure that the integration was seamless and maintained the overall coherence and voice?
How did you modify or adapt the AI-generated content to fit your assessment documentation or presentations argument or narrative structure?
Critical Evaluation:
In what ways did you critically assess the accuracy, relevance, and quality of the AI-generated content? Provide examples of how you verified information or cross-referenced AI contributions.
Discuss any ethical considerations you took into account when using AI-generated content, such as potential biases in the AI's responses.
Learning and Improvement:
Reflect on how using AI has affected your research and writing process.
What benefits and challenges did you encounter?
How do you plan to use AI in future academic or professional projects based on this experience?
Original Contribution:
Elaborate on the aspects of your assessment documentation or presentation that showcase your original thought, analysis, and synthesis. How did you ensure that your voice and ideas remained central, even when incorporating AI-generated content?
For certain assessments:
Reflection on personal experience and team collaboration cannot be supported by AI generated content or assistance. Personal reflections will be analysed for AI likelihood using AI content detector software. This is because certain individual reflections are there to support you in your learning and internalising of experiences and therefore, needs to be based on your personal actual reflections and learnings.
