Estimation->
Approximate judgement or opinion about number which is close enough to the exact solution.
Estimation means a close guess of the actual value.
How will we know if our guess was right or wrong?
Only when we try, we will know how close or far we are to the answer.
For the each try we guess, try and compare, we will develop the skills to think with our mind and estimate well.
Rounding Off:-
Ex: 5.3, Since 3 is lesser than 5 the number will be rounded off to five. While on the other hand if the number is 5.6, then it will be rounded up to 6 since 6 is greater then 5. Hence we can write
5.3≈5
5.6≈6
Where the symbol (≈) shows the approximate between the two values.
Operations On Rounding Off:-
Example 1: Find the approximate value of 7845+3423.
Solution: 7845 rounded off to the nearest thousand becomes 3000.
Therefore, the approximate value of 7845+3423= 8000+3000 = 11,000
Example 2: Find the approximate value of 9423-3284.
Solution: 9000-3000 = 6000
Example 3: Find the approximate value of 673x7.
Solution: 600x7= 4200 700x7= 4900
Here, we know that the answer is between 600x7 and 700x7, i.e. between 4200 and 4900. As 673 is closer to 700 than 600, 673x7 is closer to 4900.
