The Welsh Language Charter’s aim is to positively influence children’s use of Welsh socially. In short, to get the children to speak Welsh naturally among themselves. Since the launch of the Welsh Language Charter, very good work has gone on in our school. The Welsh Language Charter requires the involvement of all members of the school community – the School Council, the pupils, the workforce, parents, governors and the wider community in order to ensure full ownership.
Every Friday, staff members discuss and decide on a 'Welsh Speaker of the Week'. The selected pupil receives a certificate and a small prize.
The Welsh Language Charter decides on an 'Idiom of the week' every fortnight. The pupils are encouraged to use this idiom within conversations / in their work.
We choose a different Welsh artist / band every week / every fortnight in order to introduce Welsh music to the pupils.
