It is important that each pupil is able to maximise their performance in key subject areas by selecting the right number of choices to suit their needs. All students will have the opportunity to study a minimum of 11 GCSEs.

Glan-y-Môr offers 3 pathways for students when choosing their options. These are the Extension, Enrichment or Enhancement pathways.

This path is for students who do not require extra support in GCSE English language/literature or GCSE Maths/Numeracy and allows them to take an extra ‘fast track’ option which will have slightly less guided teaching time (4 hours per fortnight rather than 5) but give those students the opportunity to secure 11 GCSEs. Typically, this is available to pupils within the top 3 sets in Maths and strong performance in English.

This path is for the majority of students. It will give them an extra 2 hours additional support in Maths and 2 hours additional support in English. This pathway will ensuring they are able to maximise their performance in these important core subjects whilst still having the opportunity to secure 10 GCSEs.

This path is for students who will benefit from extra support in both English and Maths, but will also benefit from close support in developing wider skills and qualifications preparing them for the world of work.
