The Positives

While the internet does have its downsides, it is mostly a positive tool that has revolutionised the way we communicate, work, and access information. The internet has made it possible for people to connect with each other from anywhere in the world, access a wealth of educational resources, and conduct business from the comfort of their homes. The internet has also played a crucial role in advancing scientific research, promoting human rights, and fostering global cooperation. While it is important to be aware of the potential risks and take steps to protect ourselves and our children online, it is equally important to recognise the many positive aspects of the internet and the countless opportunities it offers.

Teachers, families, carers and practitioners need to empower children to be critically minded and be confident when exploring the online world. If we can teach children to recognise the risks and be vigilant, whilst giving them the tools and support to deal with any risks that they may come across, then we can minimise children being harmed online.
