Message from the Director of Education, Skills and Young People
Mae bron yn ddiwedd y tymor ac mae golau’r dydd yn ymestyn, mae'r gwenoliaid yn cyrraedd yn ôl o Affrica ac mae gerddi eich ysgolion yn llawn cennin pedr, briallu ac eirlysiau erbyn hyn. Mae llawer wedi digwydd dros dymor y gwanwyn, ac mae wedi bod yn wych gweld yr holl waith arbennig sy’n digwydd yn yr ysgolion ar draws yr ynys. Mae'r cwricwlwm newydd yn datblygu’n dda, gyda llawer o enghreifftiau creadigol ar waith. Llongyfarchiadau i bawb sydd wedi cymryd rhan yn yr amryw eisteddfodau, ac edrychaf ymlaen at weld y rhai sydd wedi bod yn llwyddiannus ac a fydd yn cynrychioli eu hysgolion a’r ynys y tymor nesaf. Nid yw'r tymor wedi bod heb ei heriau, gyda chyllidebau ysgolion, recriwtio a materion cymdeithasol i gyd yn effeithio ar ysgolion, ac rwy'n eich edmygu chi gyd am weithio drwyddynt gyda phroffesiynoldeb. Mae’n hynod o drist gweld un o’n prif gyflogwyr ar yr ynys, 2 Sisters, yn cau ei ddrysau ar ddiwedd y mis, ac rwy’n siŵr y bydd hyn yn achosi heriau yn eich ysgolion dros y misoedd nesaf. It is almost the end of term and the days are getting longer, the swallows are returning from Africa and your school gardens are now full of daffodils, primroses and snowdrops. A lot has happened over the spring term, and it has been great to see all the excellent work going on in the schools across the island. The new curriculum is developing well, with many creative examples in place.
Congratulations to everyone who has taken part in the different eisteddfodau, and I look forward to seeing those who have been successful representing their schools and the island next term. There have been some great examples of collaborating between schools and clusters, working on various projects and sharing practices with each other.
The term has not been without its challenges, with school budgets, recruitment and social issues all affecting schools, and I admire you all for working through these challenges with professionalism. It is incredibly sad to see one of our main employers on the island, 2 Sisters, closing its doors at the end of the month, which I'm sure will cause challenges in your schools over the coming months. The Learning Service is here to support you in any way we can. On the other hand, there has been good news with the announcement of the new freeport in Holyhead. This will undoubtedly bring opportunities to the island and indirectly to Anglesey's schools.
At the end of the term, I would like to take the opportunity to thank Mrs Gwyneth Môn Hughes who will be retiring at the end of next month. We are grateful for her hard work over the years in supporting Anglesey's schools. Gwyneth will be missed as part of the team. Finally, I would like to thank all of you for your hard work over the term. The positive influence you have on the children and young people of Anglesey through your hard work is clear to see. I hope you all have the opportunity to enjoy a well-deserved break over the Easter holidays. Thank you.

Cafwyd newyddion trist dros yr wythnosau diwethaf. Mae Grŵp Bwyd 2 Sisters wedi cadarnhau y bydd yn cau ei ffatri prosesu ieir yn Llangefni ddydd Gwener yma, y 31ain o Fawrth.
O'r 1af o Ebrill ymlaen, amcangyfrifir mai dim ond oddeutu 20-25 o’r 730 o’r gweithlu presennol fydd yn parhau’n gyflogedig ar y safle, sy'n newyddion trychinebus i’r gweithlu a’u teuluoedd. Bydd hyn yn amlwg yn cael effaith ar rai plant a phobl ifanc yn eich ysgolion.
Mae Llywodraeth Cymru, mewn cydweithrediad â Llywodraeth y DU a Chyngor Sir Ynys Môn, wedi sefydlu tasglu er mwyn cynnig cefnogaeth i’r gweithwyr a’r gymuned ehangach. Bu i hyn gynnwys sefydlu canolfan gymorth cyflogaeth yng Nghanolfan Fusnes Bryn Cefni yn y dref, gyda chymorth nifer o sefydliadau fel Cymru’n Gweithio, Cyngor ar Bopeth a Chanolfan Byd Gwaith.

There has been sad news over the past few weeks. 2 Sisters Food Group has confirmed it will be closing its chicken processing plant in Llangefni this Friday, the 31st of March.
As of the 1st of April, it is estimated that only around 20-25 of the current 730 members of the workforce will remain employed on site, which is devastating news for the workforce and their families. This will obviously have an impact on some children and young people in your schools.
The Welsh Government, in collaboration with the UK Government and Anglesey County Council, has set up a taskforce to offer support to the workers and the wider community. This included the establishment of an employment support centre at Bryn Cefni Business Centre in town, with the support of a number of organisations such as Working Wales, Citizens Advice and Jobcentre Plus.
The sad situation will certainly bring social challenges to our schools. Please get in touch if you have concerns arising from the situation. The Learning Service is here to support you in any way we can, and we can direct you to where the support is available to your school and families.

A Successful Freeport Application -
Special Opportunities for Anglesey.
Yn dilyn datblygu cynllun ar y cyd rhwng Cyngor Sir Ynys Môn a Stena Line, mae Llywodraethau’r DU a Chymru wedi cadarnhau y bydd Porthladd Rhydd Ynys Môn yn un o ddau borthladd rhydd i’w sefydlu yng Nghymru. Mae hyn yn newyddion cadarnhaol iawn i ardal Caergybi a’r Ynys yn ehangach.
Mae porthladdoedd rhydd yn diddymu rhwystrau masnach ac yn darparu hawddfreintiau sy’n symleiddio sut y gall busnesau weithredu. Yn ôl amcangyfrifon modelu, byddai’r porthladd rhydd yn denu gwerth £1 biliwn o fuddsoddiad sydd wir ei angen, yn cynnwys tua 3,500 i 13,000 o swyddi cyflog uchel ar draws y rhanbarth dros y pymtheg mlynedd nesaf.
Mae gan gais Ynys Môn gefnogaeth busnesau sylweddol o amrywiaeth o wahanol sectorau a diwydiannau gan gynnwys Rolls Royce, Bechtel a Last Energy ynghyd â phartneriaid addysgol sylweddol megis Prifysgol Bangor. Following the development of a joint scheme between Anglesey County Council and Stena Line, the UK and Welsh Governments have confirmed that the Anglesey Free Port will be one of two free ports to be established in Wales. This is very positive news for the Holyhead area and the wider island.
Free ports remove trade barriers and provide easements that simplify how businesses can operate. According to modelling estimates, the free port would attract £1 billion worth of much-needed investment, including around 3,500 to 13,000 high-paying jobs across the region over the next fifteen years.
Anglesey's application has the support of significant businesses from a range of different sectors and industries including Rolls Royce, Bechtel and Last Energy along with significant educational partners such as Bangor University. Free port status will also provide a significant boost to the County Council's Energy Island Programme - which aims to become a hub for low carbon energy research and development, innovation productivity and servicing - and supports its ambitious target of achieving net zero by 2030.
Free Port status has the potential to attract significant new investments along with funding to develop new infrastructure, which would otherwise be unavailable. These developments will be able to secure special careers and opportunities for Anglesey's children and young people for the future. This positive news will undoubtedly bring a wide range of opportunities to Anglesey schools. We look forward to sharing more information with you over the coming months.

Bydd yr ymgynghoriad yn rhedeg am bron i 7 wythnos, ac yn dod i ben ar 18 Mai 2023. Byddwn yn trefnu cyflwyniad i benaethiaid a llywodraethwyr ar gynnwys y strategaeth yn gynnar yn nhymor yr haf. A note to inform you that we are aiming to launch the consultation on the ‘Modernising Learning Communities and Developing the Welsh Language Strategy’ on Friday 31 March 2023. The consultation will run for almost 7 weeks and will end on 18 May 2023. We will arrange a presentation for headteachers and governors on the contents of the strategy early in the summer term. We will share more information with you after the Easter holidays. In the meantime, you can find the consultation on the Council’s website from Friday onwards.

Privacy Issues, the Value of Personal Data and the Children’s Code Resources from the ICO
Mae’r ICO wedi cynhyrchu cyfres o adnoddau ysgol i athrawon eu defnyddio wrth drafod materion preifatrwydd a gwerth data personol. Mae'r cynlluniau gwersi'n ymdrin â beth sy'n cyfrif fel data personol, pam mae’n werthfawr a sut i'w gadw'n ddiogel wrth i ddisgyblion ddefnyddio’r cyfryngau cymdeithasol.
Mae’r ICO wedi ychwanegu cyfres o gynlluniau gwersi yn benodol ar y Cod Plant. The ICO has produced a suite of school resources for teachers to use when discussing privacy issues and the value of personal data. The lesson plans cover what counts as personal data, why it’s valuable and how to keep it safe when pupils are using social media.
The ICO has added a set of lesson plans specifically on the Children’s Code. The Children’s Code is a set of rules designed to make the internet a safer place for children to learn, explore and play. It requires organisations to put the best interests of the child first when they are designing and developing apps, games, connected toys and websites that are likely to be accessed by young people.
The resources are free to download and use and are bilingual. The ICO has also produced a set of worksheets for each PowerPoint to facilitate discussion. Teachers can use these to help children identify where they can go to for support, including what they should do if they suspect an app, game or website is misusing their data or not conforming to the Children’s Code.

Since its launch, Jobs Growth Wales+ has been creating life-changing opportunities to help young people on the right path to earning money, gaining independence and reaching their full potential. The recent changes will extend the support available to help even more young people.
New Jobs Growth Wales+ toolkit
The attached toolkit provides information on the changes along with a fresh suite of materials that you can use to promote Jobs Growth Wales+ across your channels.
The toolkit highlights the new ‘Get Ready’ activity on the programme, along with the updates to the age eligibility, additional perks now on offer, and the new assets available for you to download.
This includes a brand-new Jobs Growth Wales+ explainer video featuring TikToker Ellis Lloyd Jones and radio DJ and presenter, Mirain Iwerydd; plus, fresh leaflets, videos, animations and accompanying social media posts.
How you can help
Thank you for your assistance in raising awareness of the programme over the last year. It’s made a huge difference.
We would love you to share the fresh material and messages with your networks and in conversations with young people to continue to raise awareness of Jobs Growth Wales+, especially with young people who may be at risk of dropping out of education who may benefit from ‘Get Ready’ activities.

The SUSR has commenced a Statutory Guidance Consultation, Single Unified Safeguarding Review (SUSR) draft statutory guidance | GOV.WALES
Plan UK have a funding opportunity for “test and learn” work with boys and young men this spring/ summer. Projects to reduce gender-based violence should be between 6-12 sessions (but can be delivered in any format) and funding available is between £3000- £6000. They are looking to attract a diverse range of projects from across Wales. Applications close 31 March 2023. Please see attachment in the email for further information
