This Autumn Term the children decided on our topic of 'Seas and Oceans' through pupil voice.
The children will be learning about :

Atlantic Underwater World
The Pacific Ocean and the Great Barrier Reef
Mythological sea creatures
Fantasy Islands
Ships and boats
The Galapagos Islands and Charles Darwin

Esmae is working in the Blue Group for our Phonics sessions.
Esmae recognises all of our phonics sounds and uses them to read confidently and independently. She works well with a partner to take it in turns, identifying tricky words, spot spelling and grammar mistakes and she is using expression well.
She is beginning to use her phonological knowledge to spell unfamiliar words.
She is working hard with her presentation and is trying hard with her cursive writing.
Esmae has completed some lovely Literacy work to a good standard.
She has been busy creating plans for both a recount and instruction text. She is really trying hard to present her work well and uses relevant memory joggers to help support her in her writing. She is trying hard to remember to use capital letters and full stops. Good girl! She is beginning to use time connectives, for example: First, next, finally.
Esmae is able to use 'bossy' verbs within her instruction writing and can create clear, short and precise instructions.
Most of the time she listens well in class and to visitor's. She has enjoyed taking part in Kerbcraft road safety sessions and sessions with PC Sweetman.
Esmae uses Welsh phrases in class independently.
Esmae is beginning to self assess her work according to the success criteria and begin to recognise what she can do to improve her writing.

Esmae is trying so hard in Maths and is beginning to show more confidence in this area of learning.
She is showing more confidence in bonds to 100 in multiples of 10. For example 50+50.
She is beginning to mentally add using her knowledge of number bonds to 10 and 20. She uses a little rhyme to help and the numicon for support if needed.
Esmae has good knowledge in place value of tens and units and is progressing onto HTU.
She is able to use symbols to show more than and less than.
After each block of work Esmae takes part in 'Mastery Checkpoint' challenges. Here she works with an adult to answer questions based on the work we have been carrying out in class. With an adult she is starting to break each question down and works through these systematically. Most of the time she perseveres throughout and shows good determination in giving things a go. She asks for help if needed.
Esmae is beginning to show confidence in her 2 and 3 x tables.
She is trying hard to halve and double 2 digit numbers. Da iawn!

Esmae has enjoyed our trip to Blue Planet this term. She enjoyed learning about which sea creatures live where? She enjoyed watching the scuba divers feed the stingray's and watching different animals pass our window when we were eating. She created some lovely artwork and writing based on our trip.
This spring term we will complete our Seas and Oceans Topic.
The children have also agreed on their new topic through pupil voice. Which will be - 'Famous Authors and Myths and Legends'.

Esmae is working in the Grey Group for our Phonics sessions.
Esmae recognises all of our phonics sounds and uses them to read confidently and independently. She works well with a partner to take it in turns, identifying tricky words, spot spelling and grammar mistakes and she is using expression well.

She is working hard with her presentation and is showing good signs of joining her handwriting.
Esmae communicates in a variety of ways well.
She enjoys Welsh. She reads to a good standard and takes part in tric a chlic sessions well, where she is adding a range of words to her vocabulary. She asks and answers questions well to find out information and she enjoys playing Welsh games through ICT.
She listened well to the Fire Safety Officer asking and answering relevant questions throughout the session.
Her writing standard is good. She follows a plan she has created independently using memory joggers to write. This term she has written in a variety of genres, which include biographies, recounts, diary entries and letter writing. She is becoming more consistent in using paragraphs and different sentence openers. Most of the time she uses adjectives with a few reminders from adults to extend her work.

Esmae is trying hard in Maths.
This term she has been working on Capacity. She is trying hard to convert from ml to litres and to estimate and measure capacity accurately.
She places 3 digit numbers on a number line confidently. She is beginning to round numbers to the nearest 100.
With support, she can mentally add and subtract between 10 and 30 and either side of 100.
She is working hard to learn her times tables and enjoys using j2 blast to compete and challenge others. Esmae can perform divisions accurately using numicon and is trying hard with divisions that include remainders to.
With support, Esmae can solve word problems well.
Esmae can multiply and divide by 10 and she can count in steps of 10, 50 and 100.
Esmae can add pairs of 3 digit numbers using partitioning.
She can recognise and sort multiples of 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10.
Esmae is starting to identify fractions which include 1/2's, 1/3's, 1/4's, 1/6's and 1/8's. She is beginning to find equivalent fractions and fraction of amounts.

Esmae enjoyed dressing up for World Book Day in class! What a super Harry Potter you were! She enjoyed listening to stories and sharing books with her friends.

Esmae has enjoyed learning about Chinese New Year. She listened well to information and she was able to use J2E to write some information about the festival and input some pictures to her work. She enjoyed getting creative and making Chinese lanterns and dragons in her artwork. She also enjoyed making Chinese stir fry and tasting the different foods.
You looked lovely performing in your traditional costume for our St. David's day Eisteddfod in school.
Target: To confidently learn the 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables.
This Summer Term we will take part in a variety of different opportunities .

Esmae is trying hard to learn her times tables.
She uses the numicon in class as an aid to help her and she enjoys practising them using j2Blast on Hwb.

Esmae has been taking part in Guided Reading sessions well. She answers questions based on the text she has read and refers back to the text to explain her reasoning.
Esmae gets her opinions across well.
She has enjoyed acting out a play and uses her expression well in the role of the different characters.
Esmae has enjoyed creating a road safety poster and putting them up around the village in order to promote the new speed limit in Kerry. She created a poster well, understanding the attributes she needed to complete in order to create a successful poster.
Her confidence in Welsh is fantastic. She uses her incidental Welsh well, asking for different things including items and answering the registers. She enjoys taking part in Welsh games such as bingo to further her knowledge and understanding.
Esmae listens well to visitors and was happy to take part in a session with PC Sweetman where she asked and answered questions to further her knowledge and understanding.
Esmae created a comic based on the Welsh myth 'Gelert'. This was a lovely piece of work and she tried hard to present her work well.
She is trying hard to join her handwriting.

Esmae can order 2 digit numbers correctly and use < and > signs confidently. She is trying hard with 3 digit numbers.
With support, she can round numbers to the nearest 10 accurately.
She is beginning to estimate a quantity within a range of 100.
Esmae recognises odd and even numbers and is starting to half them.
She is showing some understanding of fractions and is beginning to recognise 1/2's, 1/4's and 1/3's of shapes.
She is beginning to understand the term perimeter.

Esmae has enjoyed our living things topic in Science.
She has been busy investigating parts of a flower and learning about which parts are male and which parts are female.
She is able to label a flower correctly.
She enjoyed looking at flowers more closely using a magnifying glass.
Esmae used water colours to paint a flower in the style of Georgia O'Keefe.
She enjoyed growing beans in class and watching what happens to the bean by observing its life cycle in class.
Esmae enjoyed taking part in the Pentecost Party in school. She enjoyed sharing food and drinks with her peers, playing party games and making a fire headband to represent the holy spirit.

Esmae has enjoyed taking part in our PE sessions in preparation for our Sports Day.
Esmae thoroughly enjoys our technology sessions.
We have taken part in a sphero project alongside class 4.
Esmae was given the task to design a character to take part in the 'Sphero Olympics'. She worked well with her partner, discussing the brief throughout and ensuring her finished product looked like her design.
She then learnt to programme the sphero to race against others in the class.
She was given certain rules to follow and listened well when working collaboratively alongside her peers in Class 4.
Esmae was in her element!
General Comments: Esmae has been a pleasure to teach this year. She gives 100% in all aspects of her school life. Her confidence has developed throughout her time in Class 2 and she is always eager to put her hand up to answer and ask questions.
I will miss our weekly chats and your wicked sense of humour! Keep trying hard with your behaviour Esmae. Remember what is right and what is wrong.
Keep up the hard work in Year 4 Esmae! I'm sure you will go far and continue to enjoy school life at St. Michael's. Da iawn ti!
