Teaching and Pedagogy
When planning our curriculum, we consider the pedagogical methods we will need to use to support learners to realize the four purposes.
During the years of preparation for the Curriculum for Wales, we have developed a strong vision of learning and teaching which considers 'why' and 'how' as well as 'what'. Our vision recognizes the essential role of the learning environment in supporting effective learning.
We ensure that teachers have a deep and detailed understanding of the pedagogical principles and the research that underpins them. Effective pedagogy depends on a detailed understanding of the development of children and young people. It includes examining and reflecting on the teaching strategies that will best support learning in a specific context, and investigating the impact of this on learners. Opportunities are given to our teachers to undertake inquiry projects and to be collaborative in order to ensure that we develop as a learning organisation.
Our curriculum planning processes for learners are based on pedagogical principles. These reflect known evidence about effective pedagogy.
