One challenge will focus on an on-screen coding project using a program of your choice (e.g. Scratch, J2Code). The second challenge will require you to use your skills to program a device or computing equipment. This can be anything you already have in your school. In order to receive coding resources for your school you will need to submit your work to GwE. Each school is allowed to submit one project. If you are completing the number of projects with your class or club we ask that you choose one to submit.
The challenges are open to pupils from year 3 to year 9. When reviewing the projects we will consider the following aspects:
Our expectations will be based on age and so we do not expect the same quality and complexity from 8 year olds as compared to 13 year olds.
Units have been included in this resource that will introduce you to various programming concepts and skills that you can incorporate into your project. These are just brief introductions to the skills or concepts - you will need to explore further either through experimentation or seeking further support through other resources. We suggest that learners plan their projects carefully in order to break down the process and identify the small steps needed to complete the work. This will help them identify which programming skills or concepts they will need to use.
Your project should be presented as a video or online resource - the duration of your video(s) should be no more than 5 minutes. It is important that you take enough pictures and videos as you work so that you can use them in your final video. You could also use screen recording software if you want to provide commentary when submitting your work - there are plenty of free online programs you can use to do this. Applications can be submitted by completing the form on the 'Submit a Project' page. More information here.
