We began our research into finding out what it was like for children who lived during the war. We began reading Carrie's War and found out what it was like to be evacuated as a child. We found this very interesting.
Some great written work from the point of view of Carrie
We had a fantastic trip to the war museum in Brecon where we found out a lot of information about the Blitz. We also did a quiz around the museum and found out important facts as well as taking part in role play activities including the washroom, the shop and the kitchen. We all found the information very useful for our topic and we will use these ideas when finding out how the people in Mid - Rhondda reacted to the war.
We used our Voice 21 techniques to discuss what it was like to be evacuated as a child
This weeks Mightiest Marvels. Congratulations to you both.
We worked in groups to discuss body changes. We were very sensible and could name body parts and look at what happens during puberty.
This week the theme was anti - racism and discrimination. It was a thought provoking session and each child participated well and showed respect.
Year 6 attended a wonderful service for Christingle at St. Thomas Church led by Father James. A huge thank you to Mrs Mari Harrison and her team of Mothers' Union members for helping us with the making of the Christingle. Very well done to all the pupils who spoke in the service.
We had a visit from Del from New Directions and learnt some more sign language. Del was very impressed with what we knew and we finished with a song.
This worked well and all children were enthusiastic and enjoyed the session
These were facilitated by the New Directions team and were very informative. We learnt about bandages, bleeding and practised some CPR.
Year 6 participated in an all day Spectacle Theatre workshop. They were all very respectful and participated in drama activities with some hard hitting concepts.
We have teamed up with the author of Bowly books to help her create ideas for her new book. These are some of them. We have another task to complete next week.
As part of our Heritage Project we have listened to Mr Jenkins a local historian and he has asked us to find some facts out about Mid Rhondda in the past. We are busy working on this.
To end a busy week, we have been participating in Number Day and completing a series of challenges.
We completed a series of challenges to help us be more aware of what dangers are present on the internet
We had a great St. David's Day where we had an assembly by Pastor Matthew Gregory then took part in a variety of activities in our house groups. We finished off the day with the Chairing of the Bard ceremony.
Author Jenny Sullivan once again entertained us and answered our questions. She also read some of her books to us which was a privilege to have on World Book Day
What a fabulous Buddy session for World Book Day with Dosbarth Glas. We all really enjoyed and liked working in our new buddy journals. Diolch Miss O'Shea.
