Learners have settled well, and have begun looking at our topic "Colours of Life". They have worked well on how to respect others and have established rules for the class and school. They have examined the book The Sunflower Sisters which looks at the aspect of different coloured skin and they have worked on using adjectives, similes and metaphors to describe themselves and others.
We have spent this week investigating the book The Sunflower Sisters where we have looked at Cultural Diversity and why the colour of skin is different but also the same.
Our first Mightiest Marvels of the year. Well done both.
This week we have begun looking at the film Inside Out and examining emotions in the film. The first emotion that we are going to look at is Joy. We completed many activities culminating in a piece of work on "I am Joy". Learners were able to think of interesting vocabulary and use a range of sentence starters.
We held a very successful coffee morning for Macmillan Cancer charity. The School Senedd spoke wonderfully about their plans for the year then they delivered cakes to all children in the school.
This week we are focussing on the emotion anger. We have looked at what anger is and completed a task on how we feel anger and what we can do when we are angry. We had some interesting discussions and reflected on how we have reacted when we have been angry.
We had a fantastic session on a teams meeting with Footballer and write Rocco Dean who has produced already an impressive five books on his favourite football team Leeds United. Children were enthused and asked a number of interesting and probing questions which Rocco was more than willing to answer. Big thank you to Mr Rob Jones for organising this event and Mrs Harrison our vice chair of governors for being involved also. Rocco has given us all inspiration for writing. Diolch
Huge well done to our Mighty Marvels this week who displayed fantastic concentration and team spirit both inside and outside of the classroom. Well done both.
We had a brilliant afternoon working with Garage Band and learning how to compose. Some of our ideas were really good and we are going to be ambassadors for the school and instruct some children in the other classes on how to compose.
We had a superb visit from international athlete and coach James Thie. He was an exciting and entertaining guest. He had many tales of international running both indoors and outdoors which has involved representing both Wales and Great Britain. He is training for the 2024 New York marathon and is a big fan of training on King George's Track. James even gave an Olympic pin badge to the learner who asked the best question of the afternoon. Thanks to James for entertaining us and Rob Jones for inviting him to visit. Diolch.
We held an assembly to illustrate how we could show racism the red card and the learners in our Rights Respecting Group delivered this well. We completed tasks in class responding to a range of scenarios.
We celebrated Shwmae Day and completed some Welsh tasks. Da iawn pawb.
Brilliant spooky session for Halloween with Mrs Marshall. Great actions and poses by all
This week was a busy one in Dosbarth Aur. We began looking at the picture book "Journey" and did lots of great work discussing and writing about settings. All children worked hard and made good use of simile, metaphor and personification.
The week began with a fabulous assembly led by Dosbarth Aur on remembrance. The ex service men came and did the last post which was an exceptionally moving service.
We then as a class completed our Double Page Spread work that we had begun last week. Some of these as you can see are very effective.
Cinema day - Everybody enjoyed Harold and the Purple Crayon
We were extremely grateful to Rob Jones (World of Words) for inviting Mr Tony Moon of the Tunnel Society to come and speak to us. This was a very informative session and Mr Moon told us all about the tunnel and what is was going to look like when it finally opened. It was a fun and engaging session for all.
Mightiest Marvels this week. Well done both.
A great Santa dash event. Well done all.
This week sees the start of our Christmas shows. The first one took place on the morning of the 10th December and even though 20 children were missing from both classes, the production was fantastic.
