Role of the School Counselor

Ms. M and Ms. B are here to support you!  Just like your teachers support you with academic learning,  our job is to teach students skills that help them manage their feelings, build social skills, solve problems at home and school,  and much more. This is accomplished through building relationships, understanding student motivation, and meeting individual needs.  We serve all students at BPS through classroom lessons, small groups, and on an individual basis using the American School Counselor Association National Model to build a comprehensive school counseling program at BPS.

Counseling within the school setting is student centered, strengths based, solution focused and short-term.  Students who need long term, or in-depth support for intense life challenges  may be referred to outside counselors or therapists. Students are welcome to self-refer, but may also be referred by a teacher or parent. Though students are divided by last name, we are working together as a team to support ALL students and continuously collaborating together.

Do not hesitate to reach out via email kmosher@huusd.org or abergeron@huusd.org or by phone 802-244-7195 extension 8064 (Ms. M) or extension 8017 (Ms.B). We look forward to working together!

Classroom Lessons

Classroom lesson topics may include:

Small Groups

We seek to help students and groups of students, with conflict resolution, friendship, social skill building, and goal setting for the present and future. We may also run a group if students are experiencing similar life events outside of school.  Our role also supports students during the transition from entering kindergarten and moving to middle school.

Individual Support

We meet with a small number of students on an individual basis for six to eight weeks to provide brief and solution focused counseling support. If students need greater support beyond on the 8 weeks it is recommended to seek additional outside counseling. We are happy to provide referrals for students and families.
