Nick Gordon

ngordon@huusd.org

Nick Gordon was born and raised in Essex Junction, Vermont. After graduating from the University of Vermont in 2013, he spent some time as a paraeducator, long term substitute teacher, and behavior interventionist. In 2014, he was hired to teach Personal Finance and Social Studies at Milton High School. Nick made the transition to middle school in 2015, teaching 7th grade economics at Tuttle Middle School in South Burlington. He has been at Harwood since the Fall of 2016. Nick is currently living in South Burlington, VT with his wife and daughter. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, camping, disc golfing, and traveling.

Growing up just outside of Philadelphia, Jen earned her undergraduate degree in Social Work at Temple University. After spending a few years in Colorado, Jen pursued her Master’s degree from University of Vermont in counseling. Jen thinks middle school is an exciting time of transition for students and families. Jen views her work through a family-systems lens and loves to work with families and caregivers during this exciting time of middle school transition. Jen is passionate about encouraging students to discover who they are and to grow into their full potential.

When Jen isn't working she enjoys spending time with her two kids, husband and dog, and loves cooking, crafting, snowboarding, skiing, running, hiking, biking, paddle-boarding and any activity that involves being outdoors.

Angela Selvaggio

Originally from the Land of Lincoln (Springfield, IL), Angela Selvaggio earned a B.S. in Forestry - Natural Resource Management from Southern Illinois University - Carbondale. After several years of teaching children in the outdoors, and working within a variety of school settings, she returned to school to pursue a Master’s degree in Education at Johnson State College. Angela joined the Harwood faculty in 2006 to work with the Crossroads program, and helped launch The HUB Program, a model of career-focused education. In 2015, she moved to the 7th grade team to teach science. Through the science curriculum, Angela's goal is to provide students with opportunities to unleash their inner curiosity with courage and without hesitation, and make relevant “real world” connections. Angela enjoys spending time with her family, and loves chasing after her 3 young kids!

Jon Potts was born and grew up in Kentucky, receiving a B.A. in English from the University of Kentucky in 1998. Before earning a teaching credential in San Diego, California, Jon taught rock-climbing and leadership at an outdoor school outside Louisville. He has also worked as a chef in Colorado, a freelance writer and copy editor in Ithaca, NY, and a substitute teacher in NY, CA and VT.

An avid outdoorsman, Jon has backpacked in Mexico and Central America, in New Zealand, South Africa, and across the United States. Mr. Potts looks forward to introducing the students to English as an interesting practice that is useful and empowering in the world outside the classroom.
