I am Tonya Major, and I am very excited to be a part of Hutto ISD. I have been a school counselor for 26 years and in education for a total of 30 years. Prior to working at the Hutto Ninth Grade Center, I worked as a counselor in Round Rock ISD, Director at The King’s University, Intervention counselor in Keller ISD, and school counselor in H-E-B ISD and Dallas Public Schools. My teaching experience includes Kindergarten, 3rd grade, and college students. I earned my undergraduate degree from Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas, and master’s degree in Counseling from Texas A&M-Commerce in Commerce, Texas. I have spent most of my adult life in the DFW area, but returning to central Texas brings me closer to my childhood upbringing in San Antonio, TX.
As a lifelong learner, I enjoy supporting students in finding their strengths and passions through educational opportunities. Ninth grade is a wonderful time of development and discovery academically, socially, and emotionally. It is my pleasure to assist all students on their path to defining and achieving success. Through academic advising, classroom guidance, graduation planning, and counseling, I will be working with students, families, and staff to help your student have a successful 9th grade year.
