Answers to common questions
Can I see a different counselor? Yes, there may be times when your counselor is not available and you need immediate assistance. It's important to make an appointment with your counselor so that you can establish a time that you are both available.
When can I see a counselor? After you reach out to your counselor to make an appointment, they will call you down from class. If it is not an urgent matter, we will wait until your advisory or elective class to meet with you.
Do I have to have permission from parents to see a counselor? As your academic counselor, our support and guidance is academically based, so we can check in with you regarding attendance, schedules, graduation requirements and grades. If you need to see a mental health provider at school, we will need parent permission for those services.
Will you call my parents? We respect your privacy, but there are limits to confidentiality. If someone is hurting you, you want to hurt yourself, or if you want to hurt someone, we are required by law to contact your parent or guardian.
Am I in trouble when I visit a counselor? We often assist students in making good decisions, but we are not the disciplinarians of the school. We try to support you as much as we can, even when you aren't making the best decisions.
How do I get to see Minnie? Minnie visits our school a couple times per week. She can be seen visiting the hallways and classrooms throughout the day. Minnie is a therapy dog, you are allowed to pet and hug Minnie. She is a great stress reliever!
