Hutto ISD Google Classroom
Frequently Asked Questions

The info says to put each lesson in a Google Slides or other self contained item (doc, etc). This makes sense for some things but does not seem to make sense to do for everything. Sometimes it makes sense to use Google Classroom like it is designed to be used and for the assignment to have a direct link to something (esp if it integrates with google classroom). it said put links to other tools even in the google slides. Was that a guideline to be helpful or they really want that all the time?

It's best to keep everything in one location as much as possible. It's less confusing for students and parents. It also helps with the frame or flow of a lesson. This was an issue in the spring with too many attachments listed on the classwork page. It became overwhelming. Some teachers are making an additional section/topic below the Previous Lessons section, titled Teacher Use Only and adding assignments for independent practice there. They are copying the direct link to each of those assignments and linking them in their lesson or into the daily schedule if it's for asynchronous practice while small synchronous groups are pulled. Here is a video showing the additional Teacher Use Only section.

In Classroom an assignment seems like it is meant to be the self contained space for a given lesson/assignment.

Classroom isn't meant to be used for full online learning. It's meant to be used as a hub for online resources and assignments in more of a blended learning setting, so we have to make adjustments to it to make it work more like an online learning platform.

Teachers were told to provide students/parents short videos on how to use different tools (Meet, etc.) Does the district have videos for the common tools already or they should make their own for their parents?

There are some videos for some common tools, but teachers are asked to provide their own videos for applications so it also includes directions on what the student is expected to do. (Example Video) The video serves as instructional directions Just as if a teacher were giving directions in person.

Just wondering why they cannot use the green icon instead of using ClassLink to access Google Classroom. What's the difference between the 2?

If you're referring to the extension, that extension will be disabled in September by Google. If you’re referring to the app, not all students will be using a Chromebook and will not see the app or be automatically signed in to Google. Going through ClassLink is the easiest way to make sure everyone has access, and it also is a one-stop-shop for all leading platforms for parents with multiple children.

My daily schedule is different each day, because my links to resources and assignments will change. Do I have to post a new schedule every day?

You can post a schedule that has multiple days in one document. Example

Can I have a copy of the schedule in your template?

K-2 Example 3-5 Example I just made pretend examples based on the example schedules in the August Return to School Instructional Plan

Does my schedule have to be just like the example in the template?

No, I made a pretend schedule based on the August Return to School Instructional Plan. Your schedule may look different depending on what you teach and your campus expectations.

Are there videos that show parents how to access Google Classroom?

There are videos on this district Virtual Learning guide for parents on how to access ClasLink and their learning platform Click the Espoñal button on the left to view videos in spanish.

How do I find my students’ Google email addresses, so I can manually add them to Google Classroom?

If you have students that have not joined your Google Classroom by 10:00 AM on Monday, August 17, you will need to manually add your students. Here are directions for accessing student emails from Skyward and manually adding them to your Google Classroom.

Why is the schedule a post option grayed out for a material, assignment, or question?

You can only use the schedule option for posts when you are posting to one Google Classroom. It will not let you schedule a post for multiple classrooms at the same time.

Why is a Google Form, not automatically posting the grade in the grade book?

You have to toggle that option on.

Why don’t I have the option to turn Grade Importing on?
