What is AI? ✨
Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to computer systems and tools that can complete tasks that normally require human intelligence, such as generating text, solving problems, creating images, or analyzing data.
In schools, AI can help teachers and students save time, personalize learning, and spark creativity, when used responsibly.
Responsible Use Guidelines
Hutto ISD expects all staff to use AI tools ethically, securely, and thoughtfully.
Keep data private.
Never upload confidential or identifying student or staff info to AI tools.
Examples: grades, health info, ID photos, or IEP data must never be input
Disclose use where needed.
If you use AI-generated content for grading or in communications or reports, be transparent.
Always review AI output.
Verify accuracy, watch for bias, and use your professional judgment.
Prioritize Human oversight.
Don’t rely on AI to replace tasks that require human expertise, like grading or counseling decisions.
Report concerns.
Report inappropriate AI use to your supervisor immediately.

Employees and students shall be permitted to explore artificial intelligence (AI) and implement its use in and out of the classroom in accordance with policy and administrative regulations. The use of AI shall only be as a support tool to enhance student outcomes and shall never take the place of teacher and student decision-making. Any use of AI must comply with law, policy, and administrative regulations relating to student and employee privacy and data security.
A student shall only use AI tools with teacher permission and shall be expected to produce original work and properly credit sources, including AI tools used in creating the work. [See Academic Dishonesty at EIA(LOCAL)] Students who use AI tools to deceptively harm, bully, or harass others shall be disciplined in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and policy. [See FFH, FFI, and the FO series]
Can Students Use Generative AI?
Yes, with guidance and permission.
Teachers play a crucial role in guiding students' use of technology and fostering ethical practices.
AI is not a cure-all or an enemy; it’s a tool students need to learn to use wisely. Instead of blocking it, we should teach them to handle AI responsibly so they’re ready for the real world.
These levels may be used by teachers to communicate expectations for students' use of generative AI to complete school-related texts, creative works, projects, or assignments both in and out of the classroom.

✔️ Include a note in assignment instructions or rubrics.
✔️ Remind students to cite AI-generated content when used.
