Project Description
What is Dispatch?
Dispatch is an interactive emergency-response board game in which children drive remote-controlled vehicles to buildings displaying emergencies and assign the appropriate public service responder.
How was it made?
Dispatch was made using remote-controlled cars with RFID tags attached. As the cars drove around, if they hit an RFID scanner, the LEDs would light up, and questions about emergency response would display on LCD screens.
Why was it made?
This project was made to be a fun learning experience. Our players (mainly children) get a glimpse of how public service workers, police, firefighters, and EMTs respond to emergencies and make quick decisions. Additionally, players get to learn which response is needed for certain emergencies.
What were our goals?
Our goals were for players to learn to think creatively and imaginatively when multiple options seem possible and to think critically, solve problems, and be understanding.
