Considerations When Planning Speaking Tasks
Considerations When Planning Speaking Tasks
Fluency can be encouraged when teachers:
use material that is familiar to learners, such as grammar or vocabulary they have already learned;
use repetition so students repeat an activity or use the same language again in a similar context; and
apply some pressure on students (not enough to make them too nervous) to perform the task slightly faster than normal.
Focus on ‘global errors’, which are errors that interfere with the intended meaning of the speaker.
