What is CMMA and why is CMMA different from the traditional academic program at Tennyson High School?
O U R M I S S I O N
CMMA is Community MultiMedia Academy. We teach and learn through experience with an integrated curriculum and project-based learning.
What is an integrated curriculum?
An integrated curriculum is when we actively teach core classes based on the California High School standard, including classes in English, Science, Social Studies, and the Arts.
We also integrate thematically using digital practices and standalone Multimedia courses. Our curriculum links California state standards to core subjects by way of socially relevant projects.
What is project-based learning?
Project-based learning is when lessons are enacted in real-time and students practice as they learn.
Students are presented with concrete samples of professional works such as creative writing, campaign speeches, archival projects, tangible products, and new digital media.
With hands-on guidance and independent practice, students work diligently on assignments and present unique solutions to real-world problems or creative prompts.
At the end of each school year, students polish CMMA projects for a digital portfolio presentation. All students get a chance to share their work with family, friends, teachers, and the Hayward community.
