Every October, the G.O. organizes one of our most popular events: Spirit Day. On Spirit Day, the entire school travels to Bear Mountain to participate in a slew of events and traditions such as Junior-Senior Football, nature walks, tie-dye, and much more. Spirit Day is a great way to kick-off the year and affords an amazing opportunity to relieve some stress and to bond with teachers and peers.
The G.O. holds two spirit weeks: one before Spirit Day in the fall and one before Carnival in the spring. The Executive Board decides themes based on a poll by the student body, and students dress up each day according to the themes. Popular Spirit Week themes usually include pyjama day, twin day, formal Friday, and more. Spirit Week brings students together and fosters school spirit. The G.O. also offers prizes for best-dressed!
Club Fair highlights the 120+ incredible clubs here at Hunter. This event takes place near the beginning of the year to give students the opportunity to learn about the clubs and sign up for email lists. Clubs have their own booths, which are set up around the perimeter of the school building. The G.O. holds one club fair per each chartering season (Fall and Spring). Club meetings commence after Fall Club Fair, usually held at the beginning of October.
Carnival takes place right before the end of school, and is open to the entire Hunter community. Students and faculty members spend the afternoon together playing games, enjoying performances, eating food, and winning prizes! At the end of Carnival, the junior class rushes the Senior Steps to celebrate the end of a successful year and mark the transition from one senior class to the next. Each year has a unique theme, with past years including Beach, Old Town Road, Alice in Wonderland, Where’s Waldo, Luau, Safari, Casino, 70's, Under the Sea and many more!
The G.O. Talent Show takes place mid-April and features students of all grades. Those wishing to participate sign up in late-February and are given brief auditions. We encourage everyone to tryout! If you're not interested in performing, come and support your fellow Hunterites and enjoy a great show for free! A panel decides winners and the G.O. provides prizes!
The G.O. typically holds two free breakfasts during the school year. Free Breakfast is provided to the entire student body and to all teachers. It begins in the morning at 7:30 AM and ends before first period. Our past spreads have included donuts from Krispy Kreme, coffee, juice, chocolate milk, and allergen-free donuts. This tradition is meant to encourage and motivate students to continue their hard work into the new year!
The Community Fair is a showcase for Hunter's community service clubs and for students to check out potential options to fulfill their 75 hours.
The annual G.O. World Fair showcases Hunter’s incredible cultural clubs with a week of luncheons and activities. Each club brings a unique food or activity every year. At past World Fairs there has been everything from henna tattoos to jegichagi to hwachae.
The G.O. organizes a week of wellness every year for students to relax during their Activities and lunch periods. Past activities have included board games, mandala coloring, and petting therapy dogs, and activities are held 202/224.
The Spelling Bee takes place every November and allows 7th and 8th grade students to compete in the preliminary round of the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Sign-ups take place two weeks before the event during official or through online forms. The top three finalists move on to the regional competition.
