Primary Years Programme Coordinator (PYP)

Wow, what a great start to the term it has been! The children have settled back into our routines and have adapted to the increased pace of the teaching and learning. The children now have their own table places and have started to take ownership of the resources they need to support their learning.

In our inquiry the children have enjoyed reading different types of books, from traditional tales to fables. They have reflected upon their own feelings and emotions towards a story or character and then through drama they have taken on the role of different characters. The children have enjoyed researching on the new iPad's and have really engaged with MyOn. They particularly enjoyed the fable of 'Hare and Tortoise'.

In Maths, the children have been learning about related facts (addition and subtraction number sentences) through the part, part whole model, the use of number lines and tens frames. It has been exciting to see the increased levels of independence in their Maths learning.

PE has provided a hit this term, the children have adapted well to having two PE lessons a week. They have been developing their gymnastic skills through storytelling and it has been fun to see their confidence grow.

A gentle reminder, please read daily with your child as phonics is at the heart of Year 1 as it underpins their reading and writing skills. The children have their Myon logins on the front of their link books for you to enjoy some additional reading at home.
