Times Tables Rockstars

In the last bulletin, we shared with you our plans to launch a number of Times Tables Rockstars award. These awards have been handed out each Friday to both the class and individuals that have scored the most points over the past week. Adams class have won for the last two weeks just beating Attenborough class two weeks ago and Thunberg class last week (both times by the narrowest of margins). It has also been very competitive for the winner in each class with and only Louie in Thunberg class was able to hold on to his class title this week. There was a new winner in all of the other classes.

There has been some excellent learning taking place in mathematics lessons over the last few weeks and below you can see just a few examples.

Year 1

In Berners-Lee class, the children have been working on their numbers to ten and looking at addition and subtraction. The children have also been working on their presentation, which I am sure you will agree is looking very good in the example above. The children will then be looking at properties of shapes before moving on to look at numbers to 20 and its addition and subtraction facts.

Year 3

In Anderson class, the children have been looking at multiplication and how multiplication facts link to division and how they can be used to answer division questions. They have also been looking at the link between the different times tables and how they can mentally calculate the answer a question in one times table using the facts they know from other times tables. They will then be putting this knowledge in to practice to solve more complex multiplication and division problems using known facts.

Year 5

In Thunberg class, the children have been looking at information in line graphs and tables and answering questions based on this data. They have also been using their place value and addition and subtraction skills that they have been working on when answering these questions. They are now developing their multiplication and division knowledge before moving on to formal written methods of multiplication and division.
