Writing and the PYP Curriculum
As you know a large amount of the pupils' learning at the Primary Academy takes place around a Central Idea and following Lines of Inquiry. This allows pupils to become very immersed in their learning. We then use this as a catalyst for the pupils' writing. This means that the pupils are very invested and engaged when they produce a piece of writing. Below you can see some examples of this writing from some of the classes.
In Year 1, the children have been looking at the story The Dot. They then wrote sentences to say what they could use a dot to draw.
In Year 2, the children have been looking at traditions. The children looked at the Tooth Fairy and write stories that included the Tooth Fairy.
In Year 3, the children have been learning about light and how we see. The children used their knowledge to write an information text to inform others about light.
In Year 4, the children have all been learning about the Romans and Roman soldiers. They used what they had learnt about Roman soldiers to write a diary as a Roman soldier.
In Year 5, the children have been learning about the Mayan civilisation. They used this knowledge to write a comparison between the Mayans and the Anglo Saxons (that they learnt about in Year 4).
In Year 6, the children have been learning about World War II. They read the story of Rose Blanche and used some of the images from the story to write a poem contrasting a scene during the war and after the war.
