This course is 100% online - we will engage in online exploration through real-time meetings and asynchronous (flexible learning) activities
This is a 4-week, fully online course that will provide you with an experiential opportunity to step into the role of an online student. Please plan to spend ~25-30 hours total on this course.
We will introduce you to the research and theories that inform substantive learning and teaching as applied through a variety of practical strategies to consider for your course, no matter the modality. We would even reason that many of these strategies are adaptable to the face-to-face environment as well. The goal of this experience is to provide you opportunities that will guide your pivot online. The assignments are intentionally designed to foster critical awareness of your growth as an educator and put theory into practice by developing learning materials and activities that can be used in your own course(s).
I am thrilled to be on this journey with you. This course is designed to support online asynchronous learning that creates opportunities for a more flexible schedule while also meeting the course deadlines throughout the term. I hope you enjoy interacting with colleagues, sharing resources, and exploring new ideas and ways of thinking, learning, doing, and feeling.
Being successful in this course is unique to you as an individual and involves a partnership between you and myself as the facilitator, as well as engagement with peers. As we embark on this journey together, we must be mindful of the expectations that each of us will uphold. Please take a moment to read them.

Given that this course is facilitated by various experienced online instructors, our central teaching philosophy centers on creating opportunities that support the critically reflective practitioner. In this vein, we offer the theories, research, and practices in teaching and learning to provide a lens with which to examine one's own journey while also engaging with colleagues.
Prior to course start, you may email the Center for Teaching and Learning for course-related questions.
During the course, facilitators will respond to emails within 24 hours Monday-Friday. We do are best to reply with the same response time on weekends but we are human too and have been known to take breaks.
If you encounter a general question about the course, we invite you to ask it in the Question Café forum. Your question will be seen by your peers and if anyone has the answer -- by all means, answer it! If your question is personal in nature, please send it directly to your instructor through the Canvas inbox.
