Mathematical Contest in Modeling

The Consortium for Math and its Applications (COMAP) holds an annual international modeling contest for college students, challenging teams to clarify, analyze, and propose solutions to open-ended problems.

With the goal of broadening students’ perspective of how math can be applied to real world problems, I devote several workshops to contest preparation. Each session focuses on topics such as clear scientific writing, visualizing quantitative data followed by a software tutorial, and collaboration and problem solving strategies.

After the contest, teams have the opportunity to present a poster summarizing their results at IdeaFest and/or speak briefly in our department colloquium.

Please reach out if you would like to participate.  The contest is always held in either January or February.
