OUR VISION
To nurture students with a Passion for the Arts.

OUR MISSION
To provide student with opportunities to explore, experiment and excel in the various arts forms while developing them in core values, social and emotional competencies and 21CC.

VISUAL ARTS
Through the various art modules within the Modular Visual Arts Curriculum – C.A.P.s, all students are given the opportunity to experience a comprehensive range of visual arts proficiencies across the primary education at HMPS. The modules are Ceramics, Print Making, Clay Tile Relief, Sculpture, Digital Art and Art Appreciation.

In terms of teaching & learning, the department adopts P4C (Philosophy For Children) within its curriculum as a key teaching pedagogy where teachers incorporate the use of artful thinking routines at the beginning of their visual arts lessons as part of Art Appreciation. Students are encouraged to enhance and strengthen their cognitive thinking where they have to justify their responses which encourage deeper thinking and critical-thinking for the subject. Students will learn to listen and accept the different opinions raised to have a better understanding of an artwork in relation to its background, tradition and culture.

Students who are keen and interested to cultivate and further develop their talent and interest in visual art are invited to join the intensive art enrichment programme of the Art Club. These students also work in group projects as they continue to develop in their strengths and participate in the various competitions for exposure and experience.

Music
As part of holistic education, music adds joy to learning while maintaining a healthy dose of emotional well-being for the students. Music lessons at HMPS encompasses a whole array of musical activities from the learning of music elements to singing and playing of instruments, as well as social interactions through musical games. Regular music activities include singing at mass singing sessions during special event days such as Racial Harmony Day, Children’s Day and festive celebration such as Lunar New Year.

The Music curriculum includes a series of musical enrichment programmes for the students, such as playing of the recorder, ukulele, GarageBand and ethnic drums at different levels to allow students to acquire and apply their musical skills, knowledge and understanding through listening and creating. Students also have the opportunity to showcase their musical talent during the M.A.D performance and drumming activity during recess time.

The students’ learning experiences are further enhanced with the Performing Arts Assembly programmes where they learn about different musical instruments and appreciate the beautiful music produced by the various instruments.
