Course Overview
This course is designed for students learning Thai Modern Foreign Language. It aims to enable students to communicate effectively in Thai while fostering an understanding of and a positive attitude toward Thai culture. Students are encouraged to conduct themselves appropriately in Thai society and appreciate cultural diversity.
Course Objectives
The course is competency-based, focusing on helping students acquire a sufficient vocabulary and develop practical language skills for everyday life. Emphasis is placed on the integrated language skills of listening, reading, speaking, and writing, enabling students to communicate clearly, accurately, and effectively as they progress.
Curriculum Structure
Developed by HHIS Thai teachers and aligned with the Thai Modern Foreign Language framework established by the Ministry of Education (MOE), the curriculum is tailored to students' language backgrounds and abilities. The programme primarily focuses on conversational Thai, with increasing emphasis on basic literacy and grammar as students advance. Thai cultural elements are integrated into lessons to enrich the learning experience and foster fluency through active participation.
Skill Development
Students are encouraged to develop lifelong skills while studying Thai as a foreign language, including:
Engaging in conversations: Exchanging information, expressing feelings, and sharing opinions in Thai.
Understanding the relationship between language and culture: Using Thai appropriately in various contexts, both within and beyond the school setting.
Recognizing cultural similarities and differences: Applying appropriate Thai cultural practices while appreciating their own cultural background.
In Years 10 and 11, students will explore five key topics to develop their Thai language skills in real-world contexts:
Everyday Activiries: Focuses on language for everyday activities like shopping, traveling, and dining, helping students navigate common interactions confidently.
Personal and social life : Emphasizes vocabulary related to family, friends, emotions, and social activities, fostering communication skills for building relationships and expressing personal opinions.
The World Around Us: Explores vocabulary related to the environment, weather, transportation, and community, with a focus on Thai culture, geography, and customs.
The World of Work: Introduces language for discussing careers, job roles, workplace etiquette, and preparing students for career-related conversations.based Thai working place.
The International World: Covers global issues, international relations, and cultural diversity, helping students understand global perspectives and Thailand's role in the international community.
