IGCSE Spanish

IGCSE Spanish is designed for students who are learning Spanish as a modern foreign language (MFL). The course is based on the linked language skills of listening, reading, speaking and writing, and these are built on as learners progress through their studies.

Whilst studying Spanish, students are encouraged to develop lifelong skills including;

  • The ability to use a foreign language as a means of practical communication

  • Insight into the culture and civilisation of countries where the language is spoken

  • A positive attitude towards language learning, towards the speakers of other languages, and towards other cultures and civilisations

  • Techniques which can be applied to other areas of learning, such as analysis and memory skills

  • A sound foundation for progression to employment or further study.

  • Everyday activities

  • The world around us

  • The world of work

  • The international world

Assessment

All students study the same curriculum and complete the same 4 exams for IGCSE Spanish. There is no differentiation for the IGCSE Spanish course in terms of a core or extended curriculum.

The 4 exams that are completed are:

  1. Listening Exam

  2. Reading Exam

  3. Writing Exam

  4. Speaking Exam

All the exams are all taken at the end of Year 11 and each exam is worth 25% of the overall IGCSE grade achieved. Students therefore practice all the 4 essential skills of listening, reading, writing and speaking throughout their studies of IGCSE Spanish.
