Below are some commonly asked questions for those enrolled in HTS Summer School
Classes begin at 9:00am and end at 2:30pm each day. It is important that students arrive to campus on time. NOTE: For students enrolled in the Grade 12 Dual Credit Course the day begins at 8:30 and ends at 3:30.
Yes, extra help is available for regular summer school courses from 8:30 to 9:00am daily and 2:30 - 3:00pm on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Students should book a meeting with their teacher during these times if they have questions or would like one-on-one support. In addition, teachers may reach out to students to ask them to attend specific times for additional support.
Students should bring the following items to class:
a charged computer,
computer charger,
headphones (or earbuds),
paper,
pencils/pens,
the course textbook if needed.
Lunch is scheduled for 11:30 each day. The dining hall will be preparing lunch for all.
If you have any dietary restrictions, and you have not indicated these restrictions in your registration questionnaire, please email the summer school principal, Tanya Catallo, (summerschool@hts.on.ca) who will then communicate these restrictions to the dining hall staff.
A school uniform is not required. However, appropriate school summer dress is expected. The following outlines what is acceptable and unacceptable for summer school:
Acceptable:
Any type of t-shirt or polo shirt
Sleeveless tops
Shorts, skirts and dresses with a 3” inseam or greater
Jeans and yoga pants
Shoes, sandals and flip flops
Unacceptable:
Crop tops
Strapless or spaghetti strap tops or dresses
Shorts, skirts or dresses shorter than a 3” inseam
No hats in the building
Students in violation of these guidelines will be asked by faculty to change into appropriate clothing. If they cannot do so, they will be sent to the Summer School Principal and their parents will be contacted.
Summer School attendance is compulsory to receive the course credit.
Students can only be absent one day in total. Missing more than one day could put earning the credit in jeopardy. If you have any concerns about this please connect with the summer school principal, Tanya Catallo, (summerschool@hts.on.ca) before summer school begins.
Attendance will be taken and tracked every day by the Summer School teacher.
Please email your child’s Summer School teacher as well as the Summer School Principal if your child will be absent or late to class. Please include your child’s name, course they are absent from, and any pertinent information in the email.
Below is some information about Technology requirements for summer school and the supports that we have put into place to assist you in becoming comfortable accessing and navigating our various technology platforms:
A computer is required for our Summer School program.
If you are continuing at HTS in the fall, please note that there are specific device expectations for our full-year program that can be found here. Please note that with the rapid pace of technology growth, this information is subject to change. If you are uncertain about what technology is required, connect with the IT team through a Virtual Live session - it.hts.on.ca
Students will be invited, via their school email address, to join their course which will be managed using Google Classroom.
For our new families
A member of our teAch team (Technology Integration Specialists) will have contacted you to set up a meeting during which they will review with you how to login into our systems such as Edvance, OneLogin, Google Suite, and more.
If a member of the teAch team has not reached out to you and your family yet, please email summerschool@hts.on.ca.
For students who do not attend HTS during the regular academic year:
We are offering an in-person Technology Orientation Session on Monday June 22nd from 11:00 - 11:30, prior to the start of your summer course. During this technology session you will be introduced to our various technology systems such as OneLogin, Edvance (where all reports are posted), Google Classroom, and Google Suite. By the end of this session we will ensure that you can login and navigate these areas so that your time at HTS can be productive.
We would ask that you reach out to Ms. Tanya Catallo, the Summer School Principal, at tcatallo@hts.on.ca to indicate your attendance. Note that HTS is an Apple Distinguished school and as such we have limited support for PC devices.
Our teAch department will have drop-in technology help available in the Upper Innovation Lab on:
Tuesday June 23rd from 8:30 - 9:00 & 2:30 - 3:00
Wednesday June 24th from 8:30 - 9:00 & 2:30 - 3:00
HTS Summer School has multiple channels of communication. We have a learning management system (Edvance) through which academic reports will be released. Primary communication with families will occur through email. In addition, students will be communicating with their teachers through Google Classroom.
This year we also have a microsite dedicated to Summer School. In this site you will find pertinent information such as a link to our Policies and Procedures for summer school, the summer school schedule, a list of teachers with contact information, and information dedicated to our daily assemblies.
For our new families, please stay tuned for more information about your access to channels of communication such as email addresses, accounts, and our learning management system (Edvance).
This link provides information about the required textbook for each course. If the course you are enrolled in requires a textbook, you may purchase the resource from any source you prefer.
Each week teachers will complete progress reports for students. These reports will be available on Edvance for viewing. Below is the schedule for these reports:
First Progress Report - Thursday July 2nd by 5:00pm
Second Progress Report - Thursday July 9th by 5:00pm
Third Progress Report - Thursday July 16th by 5:00pm
