Transcripts & Self Reported Grades

Overview and Definitions

At some point, all two and four-year schools will require a transcript, the document that lists all of your courses, grades and GPAs.

Two-year schools: Almost always only want a final transcript at the end of senior year - unless you are applying to an honors program.

Four-year schools: Will want a transcript of some type or a self-reported academic record (SRAR). Each school will tell you what they want.

An unofficial transcript - can be accessed by students from Genesis at any time (except in August). Some schools will ask you to upload an unofficial transcript when you apply (e.g. University of South Carolina)

An official transcript - is sent by your counselor to the college. Many schools require these when you apply - but not all!

Mid-year grades - are sent by your counselor in mid-February. This transcript shows your updated GPAs (senior courses go in as half of their credit value), and a semester one average for each course.

A Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR) - is filled out by the student, online. Students should use their unofficial transcript to fill in info for each course taken: course name, course level, credits received, grade earned, yearly GPA.

Transcripts

Your counselor will send transcripts together with your other required materials, using SCOIR. As we get closer to the Fall, we will review the request process with you. For now, just focus on getting your schools onto your Following List and starting the other things necessary for your recommendations.

Self-Reported Academic Records

Some very popular schools require SRAR completion instead of a transcript when you apply! Sometimes, you might complete a SRAR once, and be able to use it for multiple schools with only a little additional work to link the SRAR to the next school. Depending upon your schools though, you may need to complete 5-6 different SRARs. These are not hard, but they are time consuming - and you need to be organized.

SRAR System: Used by Rutgers, UDel, Penn State, UPitt, VTech, NYU, UMinnesota, U Oregon, UTenn, Texas A&M and a few other schools.

SSAR System: Used by some of the Florida publics: UF, FSU, FAU, FGCU and a few smaller schools.

Common App Courses & Grades: Some schools will have you self-report on the Common Application Courses & Grades section if you use this App. You will only have to do this section if one of the schools you are applying to requires it. Some popular schools that require include: ASU, Ohio State, Purdue, WVU, UArizona, UMass, UWisconsin

Coalition App 9-11th Grade Coursework: Most schools (but not all) will require you to complete this section if you do the Coalition application. Most students find this to be the most time-consuming of the SRARs to complete.

University of California system: Required for all UC schools. There is very specific reporting, based upon the A-G courses. There are also very specific requirements for how to enter course levels and course grades. Note: Only AP courses count as Honors courses in the UC application.

Individual School SRARs: Some schools also have their own SRAR.
