How to get into the

ARIS BACH ADVANCED ORCHESTRA

Students must try-out to get into the Advanced Orchestra. The try-out music was given to all 5th Graders Orchestra members in June. If you need another copy of it, just ask Mrs. Petrucelli. The only exception to a try-out is, if the student took the entire Summer Program (all 4 weeks of July), than they are automatically placed into the Advanced Orchestra. However, all the rules for the Advanced Orchestra still apply.

Try-out:

1. The Student needs to come to Mrs. Petrucelli and ask for a try-out date.
2. Let your HR Teacher know days in advance that you will be going to me that morning for your Advanced Orchestra tryout.
3. Tryouts are always in the morning off of the bus in Rm 338.
4. The tryout is approximately 5 minutes long, so it is important that the student comes immediately to the Orchestra room off of his/her bus.
5. You must bring your instrument and music to the tryout (you don’t need to memorize it).

Try-out Process:

I. If trying out in the morning: Pull your instrument out immediately and tune it. Set your music up.

a. I will call your HR Teacher and let he/she know you are with me, so they do not mark you absent.

II. If trying our during WIN Time:

a. Come a get a WIN Pass the morning of your try-out.

1. I will listen to the songs one at a time. I will tell you what you did correctly and what needs to be fixed.
2. I will let you know right, then and there if you made it in or not.
3. If you make it in, I will send you and your parent our letter of congratulations. Read the letter carefully. There will be a permission slip connected to the letter of congratulations that must be signed by both you and your parent. There will also be the titles of the books we play in. You can purchase these books locally at Big Bang Music.
4. If you do not make it in. This means there is something you need to fix. I will be very open about this. Go home, work on the problems presented and let me know when you are ready to tryout again. We will make a new date and go though the same process as before. You may tryout as many times as it takes.

April 15 is the final date to tryout.
