Advanced Orchestra Expectations

The ARIS BACH ADVANCED ORCHESTRA EXPECTATIONS

  1. Students must try-out to get into the Advanced Orchestra. The try-out music is available by asking Mrs. Petrucelli for it. The only exception to a try-out is, if the student took the entire Summer Program (all 4 weeks of July), than they are automatically placed into the Advanced Orchestra. However, all the rules for the Advanced Orchestra still apply.
  2. Rehearsals are after school on Wednesdays, from 4:00 – 5:15pm.
  3. Students are expected to make every rehearsal, due to the higher expectations of being in this Orchestra. If you are absent in school on a Wed., do not worry, you are excused from coming to the rehearsal. With this in mind, please realize that every rehearsal will be important (only once a week is tough), and you will only be allowed 1 unexcused absence per marking period. If you know in advance (not the day of) that you can not make a rehearsal, send in a letter from your parent. This will be counted as an excused absence.
  4. To reach our goals for the year, the expectations are that your child will practice 180 minutes a week. This can break down to ½ hour - 6 days per week or approximately 40 minutes - 5 days per week. Of course, if you do more we will get even better! Minutes will be collected every Wed., during Orchestra, rather than in their small group lesson.
  5. Once your child is officially in the group, a permission slip will be given to your child for both you and your child to sign.
  6. There are 2 books that we work out of: Orchestra Expressions Bk.2 & High Tech for Strings.
  7. The Advanced Orchestra is the only performing orchestra group that get to play for an assembly in May and they also will play for the 4th Gr. Orientation in June.
