Faculty may use a wide variety of ways to send or receive course content during this time. Here are the most common methods you may encounter.
Canvas – Henderson's supported Learning Management System. Access the login screen by selecting the “Canvas” link in the top right of the Henderson webpage.
Logging in – Log in with your standard username (everything before the ‘@’ symbol of your HSU email address) and whatever password you set up. If you haven’t set up a password yet, you’ll need to follow the “Forgot Password?” link on the login page before following the steps it provides.
Student APP - Download and use the Canvas Student APP for iPhone or Android.
3rd party LMS – Some professors may choose to use a publisher’s LMS like McGraw Hill or Cengage. These are not supported through Henderson. You will need to contact your professor or a representative with that company if you need assistance with that technology.
Email – Check your Henderson email several times each weekday. This is your connection to your courses.
Clearly word the subject line (instructors may have a format for you to use) and provide enough information in the email to effectively communicate your message.
Cloud Storage – Some professors may want you to use cloud storage solutions. You can always do a google search, but here are some common options you may need.
Dropbox – A common 3rd party option. The mobile app even allows you to create PDFs of documents using your mobile device’s camera.
Office 365’s OneDrive – You can store documents with your Henderson email account, and you can create links to share with others.
There are times you may need to share a presentation or show a professor what you’re doing to get more focused support. Here are some resources that may help.
Techsmith Relay - Henderson's official screen capturing and video recording system for all faculty, staff, and students with a Henderson email address. Make recordings that can easily be shared through Canvas and even do some minor editing. It can also be used outside of Canvas, but all users must use a Relay account to create or view content.
YouTube - You are welcome to record using whatever recording program you want and upload the recording to your own YouTube channel. You just need to create a free Google account if you don’t already have one.
Snipping Tool (Windows only) – Built into Windows is the snipping tool for taking screenshots.
Screenshots on Mac – You can take screenshots without extra programs on mac
Some faculty will want to meet with you as an entire class or maybe in individual meetings. These are some of the common programs they may use.
Zoom – This creates a video conferencing session that can invite people with or without a zoom account. It is the free version that allows up to a 40-minute session. You are welcome to create your own account and use this as needed.
Google’s Hangouts Meet – This works almost like Zoom, but there is no time limit. Unlike Google Hangouts, participants do NOT need to have a Google account to join a Hangouts Meet session.
BigBluButton (BBB) – This is a virtual classroom built into Canvas. Those in a Canvas course may be asked to attend a BBB session.
Here are some additional resources you may need to use or access while away from campus.
Microsoft Office - You get Microsoft Office for free with your Henderson email.
Grammarly - An automated grammar checking program available to students for free by using your Henderson email address.
Textbooks - The bookstore has shared some information for students that used the library or shared a textbook during the semester. Follow the instructions in the PDF to gain free access to many of the textbooks you may have been borrowing.
