ACT 1
Scene 1 - Introduction - Having an Olympic Dream and Getting Fit
Narrator reads the story from a picture book, standing (or sitting in an armchair)- side/front stage left in the spotlight.
Some of the projected images on the screen behind stage will be students drawings from the storybook as a slideshow
Amybeth and Joe are onstage, a little right of center front - lying down sleeping as the story is read, -
Guide book is also lying still on the floor on stage left
Narrator:
Once upon a time in an ordinary house in a city you might know
Lived a young girl and her twin brother, Amybeth and Joe
They knew every superhero, and had everyday superpowers
Like finding the remote straight away when other people took hours
They did cricket, piano, acrobatics, Ozkick, basketball and Little Aths,
And were pretty good at school; [] Joe liked English and Amybeth loved Maths
'Time for bed' said Mum and Dad one ordinary Sunday night
'Clean your teeth, a hero tale, now turn out the light
But this night was not ordinary, they both dreamed of glory and fame
And saw themselves as champions at the Olympic Games
And at breakfast time they saw a sight they'd never seen before
A gold-covered book with GUIDE in red letters lying on the kitchen floor
But no end to the weirdness, here was just the start of it
The book stood up all by itself ………...
Amybeth and Joe mime the story in an exaggerated style
Sleeping
Waking up slowly -
See the strange shape of the book on the floor - one taps the other on the shoulder
Look and carefully creep over
Poke at the Guide book very lightly then a bit harder - the Guide book jumps up - wakes up and speaks
Guide:
An expert guide is what you to need to help you on your way
And I’m the one, the only one, the perfect one to do it.
Listen very carefully to every word I say
Just follow me and you will see. [] Now let's get to it!
STEP ONE – GET FIT!
Amybeth and Joe are encouraged by the 'aerobics leader/instructor' (the one with the whistle) to join in with the performance.
Narrator takes a step back off stage left, to the side, Guide goes to stand next to Narrator on side of stage left
Grade 5/6 - Aerobics
