Harley

(03-13-24)

We adopted this handsome fella Harley 12 years ago. He is roughly 14-15 years old and still plays like a puppy! He loves all of his brothers and sisters...(Currently 3 cats named Luna, Nala, and Snick and a little big little brother Quinn).  Luna & Harley always play or sleep together.  She was adopted 7 years ago! Harley and Luna have been the most amazing friends and buddies for my 4 kids to grow up with. They are my world and complete our family!

From: The Hanson Family

Bowie

(02-17-2024)   We adopted "Bandit" back in July. Upon the suggestion of my son we changed his name to Bowie. He's been doing GREAT!!! He loves his treats and his cuddles, which can be challenging since he's grown to about 50 lbs!

He has such a lively and sweet personality, but he's also incredibly smart and learns very fast!! He is a great dog and is very loved. Thank you all for the work you do so that dogs like Bowie have a second chance.

Willow

(01-20-24)

Willow's first day was a huge success. We are over the moon in love with this girl. I know they say give them time to adjust, but she already feels like she's home. She is definitely a cuddle bug. We shower her with hugs and kisses. This was definitely the right decision for us and for her❤️❤️.  Also to add, potty training is going well. She's a very smart girl.

From Beth and Benny Martinez

June

(01-12-2024)   We want to thank Frank and the entire staff of HSH for their help when we decided to adopt June (formerly Pita).

We were impressed with her disciplined nature, she makes great eye contact and we are thankful for her love of life.  We have adopted a total of 3 dogs over the years & HSH was the most loving group, they are proud of their dogs and they gave June such a nice going away celebration.  S

upport the Humane Society of Hobart!

Mágia

(11-26-23)

Mágia (once Bog) is settling is just fine. She is a bit needy however' I've got all the love and then some! ❤️

Miles

(11-05-2023)   Just thought you'd like to see some early pictures of Spruce (now named Miles) settling in nicely.   So far, so good. I'm getting a crash course in dog handling haha. But he is a good boy! I'll keep sending updates.

Sincerely,

Mel and Joel Henry

Buster

(04-24-23). We got "Rocky," now known as Buster, and it was a "rocky" start as we almost returned him 2 days later.  Sooo happy that we didn't.  He has separation issues and who could blame him but is acclimating quickly!  His fun side is starting to show and oh boy is he a happy dog and extremely obedient.  You'd think he was professionally trained.  A big Thank You to the staff who helped talk us down from our initial desire to return him.  Seems his pet owners(us) needed a bit more training than the dog. Go figure. 🙂  -   Jan and John Zaharias

Dobby

(02-28-2023)   We adopted Monday now called Dobby!  She is settling in and enjoying her new home. Loves nap time.

- Veronica Miley

Katie

(01-29-23). Hi!! Me and my boyfriend adopted Katie, the sweet little beagle, a couple weeks ago and we just wanted to let y’all know she is doing great!! When we got her I remember you saying she was very quiet for a beagle. Well, let me tell you she is now your typical beagle!! Loud and proud! She loves her rubber squeaky toys! She also plays catch with herself and whips her toys across the room occasionally! She is also super into snuggles and kisses. She also loves to wear sweaters!

We love her so much and she fits in perfectly! I attached some pictures and videos so you can see how much of a goofball she is!   -   Mandy & Jimmy

Chance

(01-28-2023)   This is Chance, his name when we adopted him on July 26 th 2022 as a 10 week old Great Pyranees/German Shepherd puppy named Bounty. He came from Texas with two sisters. He is now 8 months old and 95 pounds!  He graduated first in two classes at Landheim Training Center!  He is a calm, and a true joy who is beginning to work as a therapy dog at local nursing homes and children's hospitals. He loves playing with his two large canine brothers and visiting family!  We love him very much, he is a growing, true joy!  Thanks to Emily and Frank at the shelter! - Beth Villarreal

Gibbs

(11-29-22). Hello! This summer my boyfriend and I adopted a pup named "Corndog." He came to your shelter in June and he came home with us July 22, 2022. He has been renamed Gibbs. When we brought him home he was very underweight and weighed 32 pounds. He is a big boy now and has grown, weighing in at 77 pounds. He loves squeaky toys, tennis balls, protecting the yard from squirrels, watching cartoons on Netflix, or curling up on one of his 4 beds with a blanket. He is living his best dog life ❤️  we thank you for all you do and for all the love and joy he has brought to our little family.  Thank you to all that you do!

Artimus

(06-05-2022)   The best little smartest dog came from the humane society , please adopt these animals.  She has made the loss of my husband a bit more tolerable.  She’s completely potty trained and knows her name and 3 commands❤️.  I can’t tell you how grateful we are to have her.  She’s loved.  Just wish she’d get a little bigger.  Tiny girl.

Gracie Mae, Oscar, Willow

(06-04-2022) Hello!! Everything is going good!! The long hair cat that you cuts found in a trap, we named her Gracie Mae. She’s so so sweet! She has a box in our hallway that she refuses to let us throw out! She loves to snuggle.

Willow who I can’t seem to remember her old name is actually doing well! She’s the little cat we adopted that was terrified of anything that moved. We originally thought that she needed to be a barn cat. We ended up just not interacting a ton with her except when we feed her wet food. Then she eventually started to come out a little bit when we were handing out treats and now she rarely hides anymore! She’s still a bit skittish, if we have friends over she does not come out. We find her in our baskets sleeping a lot and she will actually let us come up to her and pet her!!

Jax who we adopted as well we renamed him Oscar but unfortunately he passed away a few months ago. We noticed one day that he was turning yellow so we rushed him in and unfortunately he was in liver failure and we decided to put him to sleep.

Cereal

(06-04-2022)   Cereal, aka “bumper car” has only been with us since Tuesday, however, he and his new 90lb brother have become the best of friends. Working with your shelter was seamless and such an experience for our family. Thank you  for all your hard work, team! We enjoyed every single person we talked to at HSH.

Josh

(06-04-2022) Hello everyone!!! It’s me Josh!! I just wanted to tell you all, thanks for taking care of me the brief time while I was there. I am super happy at my new home and I have adjusted very well. I am teaching my humans new things everyday. They keep telling me I’m super smart.  I already know this, lol  I am surrounded by soo much love and I have lots and lots of toys and squeaky stuff.  Just wanted to let you guys know how I am doing and say Thank you soo much for my new family!! I love them soo much and they love me right back!! ❤️

Donna Bowling Anderson

Roscoe

(05-26-2022)   He LOVES his rope toys, and to play and run around outside. He loves snuggles and being a couch potato too.  He’s doing so good and is getting more manners everyday! lol He also had a play date yesterday with my moms dog and they played all day.  Also, he’s only had one accident and loves to fetch. He’s doing great!  Thanks for introducing our plus one to our family we needed.

Thank you Megan Hanenkratt and family!

Scooby

(05-26-2022) Scooby, fka, "Sketch" is doing so well after a few years and a forever home full of love!  Scooby has hip dysplasia and was probably born with it.  Likely, it was the cause of his aggression back when he came to The Humane Society of Hobart.  He was in so much pain.  Now it's controlled and he's so happy.

Thank you Crystal Neal-Little and family for giving Scooby the life all animals deserve.

Rodeo

(05-26-2022) Hello!!  Just a little update.  We adopted Rodeo in September and we love him so so much. our neighbors adopted their dog Rocky from you guys at around the same time.  Rodeo and Rocky are best buddies, they love playing together.  Rocky always sits by our back door to wait for us to let Rodeo out because he misses him.

Thank you Lahla Burns and family for taking such great care of Rodeo!

Kobe

(01-28-2022) Kobe, fka, "Mr. Pickles" was a cat that came through the HSH in Oct 2020.  "I adopted him through Specialty Purebred Cat Rescue in Wisconsin. His name is now Kobe and he is loving his life in Chicago.  Even though he had a super rough beginning to life, he is now thriving.  His back/tail fur has regrown and is now super plushy!  His favorite activities are playing fetch and cuddling.  I am so lucky to have found him and he is super thankful for everyone who has worked with him to give him an opportunity for a better life!"

Thank you Angela Mao!!

Bella

(12-02-21). Bella settled right in from day one. She loves her brother Marley, her boy, and her dad. She is doing great and is such a sweet heart. We're still working on some basics with her, mainly leash walking as she really likes to pull. But she has learned sit, paw, other paw, and a few other things like "go to your room" (crate), down, stay, OK (release command). Her two favorite past times are wrestling with her brother and gluing herself right next to her dad and her boy.  As always, thank you & Adopt Don’t Shop ❤️

(9-03-21). H ere's a few pictures of Bella's (Honey)  first day home and her first morning. She fell asleep there and didn't move until this morning. We're absolutely in love with her!

Thank you Mike Medin and family for making a spot in your family for Bella!

Espresso

(12-03-21). I wanted to give a quick update on my cat I adopted from you in January. Her name when she was with you was Saleme but I changed it to Espresso. She is doing so well!  She loves to snuggle and sleeps with me every night. She is learning how to be a cat and play with toys. She loves to spend her days on her cat tree and look out the window. She recently started laying under my Christmas tree and looking up at the ornaments and lights. She also very much enjoyed her first day of her advent calendar this morning. Thank you so much for all that you do!   Best,  Kailyn Snodgrass

Heidi

Happy Easter from Heidi, the one eyed chihuahua who who lived on spam all her life and came from Missouri after both her parents had to go into assisted living! This little girl is doing so well and we received this cute picture today!! Happy Easter to her amazing parents who drove 3.5 hours from Michigan to meet and adopt her!!!

Mac Attack Macaroni

had a wonderful Easter and is winding down this special Sunday. He came in weeks ago a hot mess. He had bloody raw pus filled feet and not neutered with the biggest set of cahonas ya ever did see. We had two special people in mind but ugggggh felt bad even asking with what they had gone through previously.Their own dog had just passed weeks before then they said yes to fostering an emaciated heart worm positive stray. He was only with them a very short short time until he lost his battle with heart worms. We just had to ask though as it seemed like a could be a perfect fit. And of course since they are both angels and all the stars aligned they said YES to fostering Mac! Fast forward to today and he’s been neutered but because he was neutered later in life he had mucho extra skin down there so it needed to have its own little surgery which then needed staples. It’s been a whole thing. But we are close to the finish line. Very little bleeding and staples out next week!He had his very own Easter egg hunt, surrounded by a whole lotta love, and a cozy bonfire to conclude the day! Love you all!!!

Winston

Hi!  I just wanted to send a Pupdate about Winston (formerly Boston!)  I just wanted to thank you for the opportunity to foster/adopt him because he’s truly my best friend now!  😊 He loves going on adventures, treats, training, road trips, and PLAYING WITH OTHER DOGS!   He’s been such a good dog and cuddle bug I couldn’t be more thankful!

Willow

When we first brought Willow home, she was shy and not feeling well. After meds. from the vet and some TLC she is so very loved and doing great.  She has a spunky and clumsy personality that keeps us laughing. She also loves to talk. We are so happy to have added her to our loving home. Thank you Hobart Humane Society!

Midnight

Hi. I adopted Midnight from the Hobart Humane Society back in early February of this year. I thought you might enjoy an update.  She is doing very well.  We took her to obedience classes through Canine Connect and that helped a lot with her socialization and basic manners. She is getting along well with our older cocker spaniel, Buddy, and fits in well in our family.

Shadow

I want to give a update about Shadow!  He is heartworm negative! So that honestly is a major plus. He took heartworm treatment like a champ that's for sure. He loves car rides, sometimes he try's to put his head out the window but it scares him, most of the time when were in the car hes sleeping. He honestly found his howl and he uses it to his advantage. Peanut butter and duck is his favorite snacks. I'm very thankful that shadow picked us to adopt him!! Hes the best dog.

Oh!!! One more thing, he is slowly starting warm up to strangers, especially the older people! He is such a daddy's boy tho, and you wouldnt think so pervious owners with his past.

Charo

We renamed her Charo because she is a charcoal charmer. 7/6/2020 she had hip surgery at Veterinary Orthopedic Center in Highland. Charo is recovering well, she still hops on 3 legs a lot if the times, but when she is excited like when she sees a squirrel she uses all 4.

Nora

Hello, my name is Nora ( formerly Shelby ).

You helped me find my family a year and a half ago !!

I get soooo many hugs and kisses everyday and I am told I LOVE YOU a lot !!

I enjoy playing outside and walks with my family.

I get to swim at doggie daycare and I love my pup cups and pupcakes.

I stay by my Samantha when she's having seizures because she needs me.

Thank you all so much for helping me find my family ❤❤❤

Maisy

In February, we adopted Maisy (previously Hen) from the Hobart Humane Society. She has settled in well and is very spoiled. Her favorite things to do now are take naps with her boy, go for rides in the car, sunbathe, and play in the backyard. Thank you for taking care of her until we met her! You are appreciated! #BeaLifesaver

May 30, 2020:  Kiwi and Sushi were both adopted from Hobart and that they became best friends pretty fast and share everything! They are about 6 months apart and Sushi the little one never leaves Kiwi's side.

Kiwi & Sushi

Gypsy Rose

One year ago I walked into The Hobart Humane Society and thought let's go look.  Never really thought I would leave with Gypsy Rose but 1 year later she is a totally different dog.  She stays out of the cage unless we leave the house. She goes outside without a leash. Only issue is we have a neighbor with a dog so we have to look before we let her out. She's unsure about other animals. But other then that she is loved and spoiled.  May 29, 2020.

Envy

On leap day we adopted Fanta as you called her, we have named her Envy (as in Angels Envy, which is a bourbon). She’s been such a great addition to our family. We did a DNA test on her since no one really knew what she was. She was listed as a lab mix. Can’t help but laugh at the results. I’ll include a picture of her from the day we got her, present and the results. She has 2 older sisters and her Boxer sister and her are bff’s. Just love her so much. She’s so smart and learns fast May 29, 2020.

Goose

This is Goose, formerly Diego.

He fits right in with the family. He is the best puppy.

Our family just loves him to pieces.

We are so glad we found him.         May 15, 2020

July 2019, from Mom Kelly P.

Finn

Finn is a wonderful dog!  The day that we found him, we were actually going to HSH see another dog that you featured on your Facebook page.  When we got there, there was another family already looking at that dog so we took a look around & there was Finn (known then as Roady).  Finn is such a sweet soul.  He's very affectionate & low key.  He is a bit timid around adults he doesn't know, but he loves kids.  In fact, I took him to my preschool to meet some of my students and boy did he enjoy that!  We're trying to get him used to the pool, and we've put him in a few times.  He's actually a very good swimmer, but seems to enjoy sunning himself on the deck more than actually being IN the pool.  He has a dog brother, Giovanni and they get along pretty well.  We love to take them on walks together.  We've already covered 15+ miles of the bike trail!  Finn loves: Getting treats, tomatoes, belly rubs, long walks, being carried, sleeping in my bed, lots of attention.  Finn dislikes:  Being caged, being left at home alone.  We love Finn dearly and can't imagine life without him.  We often wonder about his story, and how he ended up at HSH.

Baby

My mom adopted Baby this past spring. Baby is estimated to be 8-10 yrs old. Her right eye never developed. Her left eye has limited vision due to cataracts. She had a bad tooth on the right side which was causing an abscess on her face. Since she has been adopted, she has had her teeth cleaned. The bad tooth has been removed and the abscess is gone. Cataract surgery isn't recommended due to her age, however she gets around fine. She loves walks and car rides. She often plays with her kitty housemate and with her puppy cousin. Her loves to be held. She has had lots of adventures and is enjoying life.

July 2019, from Kelly K.

Jax

I came into Hobart humane society in April looking for exactly a beagle.  Soon as I walked into the dog section and turned right, Jax was looking right at me.  Right then and there I knew he was the dog for me.  Jax, just turned one at the end of April.  He loves playing with his toys as well as playing with kids, also loves being outside if he could he would stay outside all day.  Everyday when I get home from work he runs to me excited to see me.  After a long day coming home to him puts a smile on my face everyday.  He not only makes me smile but everyone that he's around. The life of Jax, his father Matt.

July 2019 (From Dad, Matt)

Ripley

We adopted her in the fall and she fell right into place here at home. Enjoys playing with her toys, chewing on her bones and zooming around the house and yard. Loves cuddles, belly rubs and her many MANY blankets. She knows exactly when it’s time for bed and beats us to the bedroom every time claiming her spot right in the middle of the bed. She’s not so happy tho when the alarms go off in the morning and it’s time to get up-she groans to let us know she’s not ready LOL   She is a great fit with our family of 6!

July 2019 (From Mom: Kim M.)

Rex

He loves cuddles, meeting new people, and giving wet kisses! He thinks he’s a lap dog but we love it anyways! He has lots of new friends at the dog park and causes mischief with his favorite person Aunt Kiki!    Oh and he’s definitely a mamas boy.

July 2019 (from Mom, Katie S.)

Delilah

We adopted Delilah in July of 2014 from the shelter.   She was on a 3 day hold when we met her and didn't event have a name assigned just a number.  She was really sick with kennel cough and ring worm but we really wanted her!  We went to several shelters but she was the first dog of the day we saw and she sat on my lap.  I was smitten.  She was 10 months old.  She was really shy at first but opened up quickly.  Her favorite toy is the frisbee, she loves the dog park, and she has to buy touching you at all times if you are just chilling.  She absolutely loves running and playing chase with other pups.

Deliliah, July 2019 (from Mom, Kayla M.)

Charlie

When I saw this little guy all the way in the back I knew I was going to take him home. I saw him right after he came off the truck, and visited him all 4-5 days he was there. Your staff was amazing through the process of adopting him.  After I took him home, him and my cat Suzie instantly became bffs. He didn't know how to play with any toys, other dogs, and wouldn't even eat his food unless I hand-fed him.  Now we go on multiple walks a day, the dog park all the time, and of course our weekly trip to the pet store for a new toy.  He has such a personality and I love him to pieces!

Charlie & mom Lina Roe, July 2019

Beans & Junie

Beans is hands down the best dog ever, I know everyone says that about their dog... but truly he’s the best. Although he may be the best dog, he’s actually a TERRIBLE beagle. He hates the outside, can’t howl, and would much rather prefer to snuggle up with you and be a “couch bean”. Beans love treats, attention, belly rubs, and going to school with me after hours. I love him and he truly is my best friend.

Junie on the other hand, she’s a TOTAL beagle. Because of her I’m known as the “house with the beagle”. She loves to be outside, is always dirty, and likes finding garter snakes in the garden. She’s lucky she’s cute most days because she’s always in trouble. Although she’s the mischievous one, I cannot imagine the house with out her or her velvety beagle ears.   Beans is 5 years old and just celebrated his 5th birthday in May. Junie is nearly a year old.

July, 2019 from Mom Allie

Rizzo

Candace updated us on their family member, Rizzo, who joined them last year after being adopted from HSH:

“Hello! Last November my husband and I adopted our kitty, Rizzo when he was about 10 weeks old. When we came in, he was pretty much the only cat who showed zero interest in being held or petted. He only wanted to sleep! Not long after he moved in with us, he started to develop the most sweet and hilarious personality. He is super cuddly and always has to be around us. He never bites or scratches and is quite the talker! He even waits by the door for us when we get home. His favorite things are lying by the fireplace, helping mama cook (aka playing with veggies) looking at birds outside and playing with q-tips. And he LOVES to eat spinach! He’s a weirdo lol “

Brittany sent us this update and pictures of one of our HSH alumni:   “Just wanted to share that we are so in love with Frank (formerly Stitch)! He is the sweetest and most fun dog! We adopted him from the Hobart Humane Society about a month ago and we can’t imagine our lives without him. Frank was the perfect addition to our family! Thank you again!!”

Frank

Allison:  “Just wanted to give you a little update on the little beagle puppy Bane you had a up for adoption awhile ago now known as Beans. We adopted Beans a few months ago and he turned out to be a sick little guy. Poor fella had 2 intestinal parasites. Thanks to the help of the wonderful veterinarians and techs at Arbor View he was able to get on the road to recovery. In a few short months Beans has packed on some serious poundage and his timid personality has changed… SO much. He is so curious and adores his older brother Bodie. Thanks so much for our new furry family member, he fits right in.”

Bane

Clifford was at HSH for a very long time waiting to be adopted in.    Kathy says:  ” Cliff update! It has been 3 months since we adopted Clifford from the Humane Society of Hobart. This handsome boy recently got a membership to the Dyer Dog Park and loves to fetch tennis balls (he seems to never get tired). He has also become the 70-lb lap dog, as he is currently cuddled up next to me. This is my 2nd shelter dog, and I couldn’t imagine getting a dog from anywhere else. These dogs have so much love to give! Thanks Humane Society of Hobart!”

Clifford

Seamus

Seamus was adopted from HSH as an 8 week old puppy from HSH in late 2014. Chelsea was adopted from HSH in a year or two earlier.  From their new ownder, Glen:

” Here is an updated picture of 2 of your alumni! The smaller one is Chelsea, she just turned 4. The bigger one is Seamus, and he is still a pup at 9 months. They play very well with each other. Thanks again!”

Kammie recently updated us on their HSH-adopted Dobby: “People always say how he still looks like a pup! He’s spoiled and has a great life, to say the least, he cries if we pass Starbucks and don’t stop to get his pup cup!”

Kammie

Every day the pets in our care hope that someone walks through the door of HSH and decides to add to their household a new furry family member. They all hope that they are the one picked. Today’s lucky pet was M.M. M.M. has been at Humane Society of Hobart since early March waiting for his new home. M.M.’s new family drove all the way from Champaign, IL just to adopt this loveable big lug. Does M.M. look happy getting ready for the ride to his new home?

M.M.

Lisa sent us this update and photos of their HSH-alumni furkid: “We got Sadie Mae December 2015. She had anxiety and we had to hire a professional dog trainer to manage her symptoms. She is now a happy doggy, and a huge blessing to our family!”

Sadie Mae

“We adopted our Lana back in January from you, and she is loving life! So glad we were able to find her at your shelter!!!”

Lana

“Here’s a picture of Mittens, now known as Bella. I couldn’t love her more. Thank you so much for all that you do! She’s the best!”

Mittens

This is Damon and Blue. Damon and his wife Denise adopted Blue, knowing that Blue had multiple health issues. Damon brought Blue in recently so we could see him and find out everything going on in his life. It is very rare to have an adopter who is willing to adopt and treat such a hard luck case, one we would not be able to afford to treat properly. We are so very, very grateful to Damon and Denise for their huge hearts and willingness to take on this very special case. We are getting more and more animals needing advanced medical care and we really hope we can raise money so that we can afford to treat them in the future. Thank you, Damon and Denise!!
