Meet the Teacher
I was born and raised in South County. I graduated from Oakville Sr. High School in 1994. I then went on to receive my BS in Education from The University of Missouri-Columbia in 1999. Go MIZZOU!!! In 2007, I finished my Masters in Education from Columbia College.
I married my husband, Doug Oilar, in November of 2000. He is the District Data Manager for the Hillsboro R-3 school district. He is my very own little computer geek! Doug enjoys anything involving ESPN, computers, camping, and video games.
We have two amazing children. Hayden is 19 and was a Hillsboro graduate. He is currently working towards his Computer Science degree, following in the footsteps of his dad.. . Alyson is 16 years old and loves dancing, shopping, and hanging out with her friends. She is a HHS Hawkette and you can see her dancing at all school events!
I enjoy spending time with my friends and family. You can always catch me reading a book or magazine. My backyard and gardening is my favorite hobby. I actually love to cut the grass! We love to go camping and hiking. I enjoy thrift store shopping and finding treasures to upcycle. I started a new composting project over the summer and can't wait to bring this new idea to school in the Fall.
This is my 25 th year teaching 5th grade! I love teaching! It is what I was meant to do. I truly believe that learning should be fun and purposeful! A few years ago I attended STEM impact training at Washington University. I truly focus on science, technology, engineering, and math activities to help you develop a passion in an area where the jobs of your future will be.
Personal Beliefs
I would like you to know that I have high expectations for each student. I hope to develop each student’s responsibility as a contributing citizen and life-long learner. I will strive to create a positive and safe environment conducive to learning. In doing this I hope to allow each student to be successful and achieve academic growth in which ever way works best for them.
For a successful year, communication between parents, students, and teachers is important. Please feel free to contact me at anytime if you have questions or comments regarding your child. I look forward to working with each of you and thank you for allowing me to work with your children.
