Agricultural Revolution - a turning point in history that resulted in humans using the land to grow crops, raise animals, produce food surpluses, and settle in one place

Agrarian - relating to farming or the land

Civilization - society that has writing, cities, agriculture, artisans, and public monuments

Division of Labor - an arrangement in which each worker specializes in a specific job or task

Domesticate - the term used to describe animals and plants tamed or cultivated by people

Food Surplus - a quantity of food that is beyond what is needed

Hunting and Gathering - a way of life using only wild animals and wild plants for food

Irrigation - artificially supplying water to land so that crops will grow

Neolithic - the later part of the Stone Age when humans made polished stone tools and weapons; and developed pottery and weaving

Nomad - person who lives by herding animals, moving from place to place in search of food, water, and grazing land

Paleolithic - the early part of the Stone Age when simple, chipped stone tools and weapons were used

Settlement - a previously uninhabited place where people move and establish a community
