What is art class all about?

Art class at Alward Elementary is a safe place for students to create art, explore, experiment and express themselves in a positive way. In art students will learn the elements of art and the principles of design, which are the building blocks of art that provide a solid foundation for future art-making. Students will explore many different techniques and materials such as, oil pastels, chalk pastels, watercolor, acrylic paint, clay, wire sculpture, weaving and more! We will also be learning about many artists from various cultures, backgrounds and time periods. Some artists we focus on include, Leonardo Da Vinci, Alma Thomas, Georgia O'Keefe, Yayoi Kusama, James Rizzi, Van Gogh, Dr. Suess, and Pablo Picasso. At the end of the day my hope is that each student can leave with an appreciation for art and art-making :)
