This position has taught me the invaluable lesson of how to excite and challenge teachers and work collaboratively with administrators, while allowing me to continue my passion for professional learning facilitation.
I taught Art One Pre-AP, Drawing II Pre-AP, Ceramics, AP Drawing, AP-3D Design. I am also on the District Professional Development Design Team, HPHS R&D Committee, STEAM Design Thinking Committee, Global Competencies Committee, and have served as Teacher Tech for my department.
Here I learned how to challenge students that were already performing at a high level in various aspects of their academic career to mature as artists, as well has how to contribute to district and campus leadership committees.
I taught Art One at the two schools.
Teaching introductory art while working at two separate campuses reminded me of the importance of fundamentals in my content area, as well as the importance of working with a supportive team while travel teaching.
My first year I was split between Creekview and Newman-Smith. I taught 4 years at Ranchview HS. I taught Art One, Drawing and Painting, Sculpture and Ceramics, AP Drawing, AP 2D Design, AP 3D Design, and IB Diploma Art.
This experience was priceless as I learned how to excite and encourage students, often from dire walks of life, to succeed in art. I had the challenge at one campus to grow a full art program as the only art teacher over 4 years.
I taught Art One and Drawing II/III.
At Lake Dallas HS, I learned the basics of teaching, classroom management, and was able to begin developing my own pedagogical beliefs.
