PHYSICAL EDUCATION GOALS
Help students incorporate physical activity into their lifestyle
Enhance social skills and self-concept

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS
Be on time & dressed in proper attire
Participate in all activities
Follow gymnasium and school rules
RESPECT (teachers, classmates, gymnasium, locker rooms, equipment, fields)
PROPER ATTIRE
Clothing worn to school must be appropriate for physical activity (Locker rooms will NOT be used at this point)
Students must have sneakers on to participate in the activity.
Dresses/skirts, low cut tops, & short shorts are not permitted.
Masks must be worn while indoor and are optional when outdoors when able to socially distance from others
THEFTS
It is the responsibility of the student to lock all of their personal items in a hall locker. The physical education department and school are not responsible for lost or stolen items.
GYMNASIUM, TRACK, AND FIELD RULES NO FOOD OR DRINKS IN THE GYM (this includes beverages with caps, candy, and chewing gum)
NO ELECTRONIC DEVICES (ipods, air pods, cell phones, video games etc.)
** Students who choose not to follow rules will receive a zero for the day**
Grading Policy Grades 9-12
Psychomotor Domain – how well a student performs a specific skill (skills test)
Cognitive Domain – the knowledge a student has gained during a unit of instruction (quizzes, written assignments, projects, journals) This will also include the SLO and Local Assessments which align with NY State and HPCSD standards.
**Skills tests, quizzes, and written assignments will vary depending on the teacher and unit of instruction. Directions for these assignments and grading criteria will be given to students when the assignments are given.
Affective Domain – social responsibility, participation, effort, positive attitude, sportsmanship (be on time, prepared, participate, maintain a good attitude)
A grade of 65% is needed to pass physical education. Students will receive a numerical grade that is averaged into the grade point average.
Students will lose points for the following actions:
Leaving the gymnasium prior to the bell ringing
Using inappropriate language
DURING THE LAST 5 MINUTES OF CLASS, STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO RETURN TO THEIR ASSIGNED AREA UNTIL THE BELL RINGS.
EXCUSED ABSENCE (LEGAL)
Students must give the attendance office a note signed by a parent/guardian, physician, or teacher, explaining in detail the reason for the absence
An excused absence needs to be documented prior to the absence or on the students first day back to school following an absence
Students are required to access the Physical Education website, print a copy of the Make-up Card, and present this card to their teacher

UNEXCUSED ABSENCE (ILLEGAL)
Missing class or school without signed documentation from a parent/guardian, physician, teacher, or staff member
**EXCUSED ABSENCES CAN BE MADE UP, UNEXCUSED ABSENCES CANNOT BE MADE UP**
EXTENDED MEDICAL EXCUSES
All medical excuses must be accompanied by a physician’s note
Students who are excused due to a medical condition will be given an alternative assignment for the extent of their medical excuse
